Does my PC Virtual memory size play significant role in stability of POE client?
Hi! I often suffer from POE client crashes were message says I am out of memory. This sounds strange for me - I have 8Gb RAM. But recently I thought that memory problems could rise due to my low virtual memory (or paging file) size on my SSD - it is set 300-1024 MB now. So is there some kind of recommended VM settings for POE?
Also I wonder if empty space amount on my HDD can change something with these crashes. Last edited by filtre#4812 on Jun 18, 2017, 7:58:07 AM Last bumped on Jul 11, 2017, 5:52:18 AM

" If you're running on an SSD, correct, you want your paging file (virtual memory) to be small. However I'd set it to 1024MB low and 2048MB high, since some software has issues with any paging file smaller than a GB. However, I doubt this affects PoE. With PoE you're probably never hitting the paging file with 8GB of RAM. As for memory errors, a few things to try... 1.) Please perform a pack check on your client. Guide: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/18531. 2.) Run a chkdsk on your drive. If you use multiple drives, perform one on each drive. Sometimes corrupted or orphaned files can cause weird issues that pop up as memory errors. Guide: https://neosmart.net/wiki/chkdsk/ 3.) Use Disk Cleanup to remove some temp files and archived Windows Update files. 4.) Delete temp files manually from %TEMP% and %SYSTEMROOT%\Temp 5.) Disable multi-threading in PoE's client options. Test. 6.) For further troubleshooting, please run DXDiag for system info. Use a service such as http://pastebin.com to copy and paste your info, then link it here. Wanna to update this post with solution that I accidentally found. Well, I just removed quite a lot of files from my SSD (now I got about 40GB free space) and this annoying problem disappeared. This solution was approved by other game - Lawbreakers. When I installed LB game I got about 10 GB free space and I got same low of memory error on high video settings. Lowing setting in Lawbreakers removed problem, so I thought POE suffers from same thing. I did not changed Virtual memory page file though.

A simple workaround would be to move your paging file to a partition with plenty of freespace. This memory error can happen on both SSD and HDD so just make sure you got enough recommended freespace on the partition with the paging file set on it
