Flame Totem: Wand vs Scepter vs... Staff?

Leveling a Flame Totem Chieftain atm, using 2x wands, the dps seems good, not blown away against bosses of course. Trying to aim for a burning build, got no idea what endgame gear to aim for, just winging atm.

Can someone tell me what I should aim for, weapon/shield? wise for such a build? ty

Your best option for a pure BURNING build should be the searing touch. Fire damage, spell damage, burning damage... it's all there. And if you buy a relic version, you can even level with it. Literally the only thing that was changed was the base item. The old one can be used from lvl 13 onwards (compared to lvl 60 like the current one).

Doryani's Catalyst is a no brainer. 100% elemental damage on it, in addition to the sceptre 32% elemental damage implicit.

As for shield...

Trolltimber Spire is good for defence, since it lets your Totems leech for you.

Tukohama's Fortress is good offensively, 40% totem damage and an extra Totem. Though, it does have Blood Magic on it, so you'd have to deal with that...

That said, as a Totem build, you don't need to focus too much on your own survival (At least, relative to self-cast builds) so you could just get a second Doryani for your offhand for a butt-load of elemental damage.

It's dirt cheap and the dmg output is insane (the mana cost is insane too but with bm I don't give a shit). Of course using a staff is not good because that way you could never use a shield and there are some very good shields for flametotem builds out there (tukohama's fortress, saffels frame, trolltimber...).
A well rolled Doryani's Catalyst is great too plus you can use shield charge with that weapon.

isnt flame totem projectile? i think wands with projectile speed is good for clear speed also safety for bosses

Level 63 atm, switched to Searing Touch (for now), and it was a major upgrade from the 2 wands I had. My burning chance is at 45% atm, should be able to fetch 60% soon.

It sure is because that is a godly flame totem sceptre. The main reason why I use and recommend Apep is because you can buy a great roll for 1-5c within seconds. On the other hand if you would like to invest some time and currency there are lots of even stronger weapons out there no doubt.

I am currently using this. However, my DPS is low (<20 k per totem) because of the lack of additional spell damage mods on the staff (although it has 70% proj dam - rest of my gear sucks too I guess). This is more of a clear speed staff.

I'll ignore the burning part, wand and sceptre both has advantages, wand can roll proj speed, flame totem can't get proj speed with level and quality, its base range (determined by proj speed) is roughly the same with most monsters, this skill with no proj speed feels very awkward, if you want to use a wand, get a good rare. When sceptres are better as uniques, doryani's or doon cuebyari (in this case you get proj speed from tree/jewel or winds of change glove), usually doryani's is better, but if you try iron will route, and stack your str very high 900+ and go CI, doon cuebyari can be insanely good,
