If anyone else is bored a bit while waiting for 3.0 to hit I've been working on another mod recently.
http://www.moddb.com/mods/one-vision1 An awesome oldschoolish game and a shining example of an honest remake but it was kinda broken in a lot of ways, which is a bloody shame. Assuming I haven't just made it more broken this should be a straight improvement of at least 120% ('and then we doubled it' factor included). To make the long story short, no need to worry, it was a buff. ![]() Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs. ◄[www.moddb.com/mods/balancedux]► ◄[www.moddb.com/mods/one-vision1]► Last bumped on May 25, 2017, 7:37:24 AM

I played that game. I don't recall it being that unbalanced. I remember Ninjas were really good, and the other melee classes not so much. Other than a few of the unique character specific ones. The monster classes were also garbage. Mages crapped all over melee in that game with the multi-hit guardian summons. But mages usually are OP in these SRPGs.
Final Fantasy Tactics is even more broken with the "arithmetics" command. There were many fights I was able to OHKO everything on the screen, a fight which would have taken several turn rotations was ended with a single action. Height multiple 5 - flare. Oh hey it looks like every mob is on a height that's a multiple of 5! Instant win. Another gimmick was level 3 flare, if everyone on the screen is level 99 for example, it would hit all targets on the screen, but if someone had low faith, it would hit for next to no damage, so level 3 flare suicide, everything on the screen dies but that 1 character, which means you win. Since we're talking about old school games, there was another one I liked called Brigandine. There was a remake of it that's slightly better, like more classes, and a bit more challenging. Lizardmen, one of the shittiest units in the game became godly as fuck when you upgraded them to lizard kings and they got 2 attacks per turn, and pretty beefy melee stats. It is all ogre now. :)
Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.

" Yup, you pretty much described broken, you could make a team of archers or god forbid ninjas and just put it on autobattle, game cleared. Daggers did more damage than 2H Swords and most weapons were honestly trash but none of that mattered because you could just farm stats for a bit and do 1HKO with anything so you didn't even need ninja's double attacks. Sure, if you're smart you'd just clear everything at once with AoE spells and casters weren't nearly squshy enough for the kick they had. I think most of those should be solved, weapons do what you expect of them, most classes have some sort of a selling point, power has a cost, monsters are good, you even need clerics now. I suppose it's a bit closer to the old version, that one was a lot more hardcore. Yeah, FFT was also broken as fuck in a lot of ways, you could piss all over the campaign just by overlevelling and the leveldown trick was pure evil. Sure, it might be fine that the game is broken, it's a single player game so there's no real harm in being able to do whatever you like. But you know, I always liked the Ogre series, there were no mods for this one around and it had plenty of room for one, so we might just call it a tribute of sorts. Besides, I never modded anything before just by hexediting, it was pretty fun but I'm not doing that again :) Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs. ◄[www.moddb.com/mods/balancedux]► ◄[www.moddb.com/mods/one-vision1]► Last edited by raics#7540 on May 24, 2017, 8:35:42 PM

" Yeah, I've seen the artbook, such things are too often a ripoff but that one is pretty amazing. Based on the way you play PoE I'd probably agree, the mod might not be for you. If we could sum all the flaws of the original game in one sentence it would be that it rewards meta knowledge far too much, the mod just tones the reward down so you can enjoy the game again if your power gamer instincts are too strong to resist, which is not the case with you. Still, if you get the urge to play it again give it a shot, even if it doesn't improve your experience it won't make it worse either and trying to find all the nods to PoE might be fun :) Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.
