Prefix or Suffix?
|
When purchasing an item with limited resources, you cannot always get exactly the stats you want within your budget, so it is often good to make sure that you have a slot open to craft.
But some items have four easily identifiable affixes in the form of two suffixes and two prefixes. But then there is often something like "increased rarity" as a fifth affix, which (for helmets, for example) can be either a prefix or a suffix. Is there a way to tell (before buying the item and slapping it on a crafting bench) if the slot you want is free? If not -- why, actually? Is this a design feature that fulfills a specific purpose? You can ask the seller if they are able to craft X on the item.

" There are a lot of websites (wiki included) where you can browse for lists of affixes/suffixes on any kind of item, if you want to be 100% sure. It's actually quite useful thing to do, because the more you research the more you remember, and eventually you can tell by your self if it's a prefix, suffix or a hybrid roll just by looking at it. No rest for the wicked.

Hi,
I stumbled upon this really neat list and have been using it alongside the auction house ever since. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DjGcgUebJ3HdvqZu5wxNjXZYAMccMJLBLNZjBOE2-vU/edit#gid=16 Hope it helps. |

" Hey thanks. I was talking about the cases in which a modifier can belong to both groups, such as here http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/List_of_str_int_helmet_modifiers -- item rarity can belong to both groups. Can you tell them apart? " On this list, too, there is overlap, particularly on item rarity. How do you tell them apart? Let's take your example of Base Item Found Rarity % on a helmet. Using the PoE wiki entry for Item Affix, you'll see that if it's a prefix:
Req. Lv. 20 (8-12)% increased Rarity of Items found Req. Lv. 39 (13-18)% increased Rarity of Items found Req. Lv. 62 (19-24)% increased Rarity of Items found but if it's a suffix: Req. Lv. 3 (6-10)% increased Rarity of Items found Req. Lv. 30 (11-14)% increased Rarity of Items found Req. Lv. 53 (15-20)% increased Rarity of Items found Req. Lv. 75 (21-26)% increased Rarity of Items found The easy part is that if it's 6 or 7% it's definitely a prefix, and if it's 25% or 26% it's definitely a suffix, no matter what else is going on. If the ilvl is less than 75 but the Rarity mod is between 19% and 24%, then it must be a prefix. Here's an example of a 5 mod helmet with Rarity that I pulled off of poe.trade: Ghoul Shelter Hubris Circlet Level: 69 Intelligence: 154 ilvl: 74 Max sockets: 4 (4) +71 to maximum Life P3 +57 to maximum Mana P4 24% increased Rarity of Items found ?? +29% to Fire Resistance S5 20% increased Stun and Block Recovery S3 Two prefixes, two suffixes, and the Rarity mod. The ilvl is 74. If the Rarity mod were a suffix, the ilvl would have to be 75 in order to allow 24%, so it must be a prefix because that only requires ilvl 62. A more annoying example: Armageddon Corona Sinner Tricorne Level: 64 Dexterity: 138 ilvl: 80 Max sockets: 4 (4) +2 to Level of Socketed Minion Gems P1 +14 to Accuracy Rating ?? 24% increased Rarity of Items found ?? +26% to Fire Resistance S5 5% increased Light Radius ?? Accuracy Rating is a suffix-only mod for evasion helmets, as is Light Radius, so I'm not sure why poe.trade doesn't understand that, but that means the Rarity mod has to be a prefix. poe.trade might not know those are suffixes because when I go to the wiki Item Affix page for evasion helmet affixes, it's a blank page; I had to go to poedb's page for evasion helmets to find that out. Hopefully, there isn't too much gear that falls in the cracks and leaves it impossible to know if a mod is prefix or suffix. In that case, as noted above, you'll just have to talk to the seller and ask them to find out which crafting mods the item will take. The wiki for each master lists which of their mods are prefixes and suffixes (example: Haku's Armour's Workbench mods). |

" This is very helpful, now I see, thank you very much! (Asking people to craft before I buy to determine if prefix or suffix -- yikes. Most people don't even bother to say "thank you" after you give them items for free they requested.) Underrated stats: Basic human decency, small quantum of respect, microportion of compassion

" Me thinks poe.trade gets "confused" here because the accuracy and light radius mods can be two suffixes. OK in this case it can be only the hybrid mod but if it had "+15 to Accuracy Rating" it could well be both suffixes or just the hybrid mod. |
