Labyrinth review for 3.0

I was one of the people who liked the Labyrinth when it came out however, I'm beginning to understand why people hate the lab because I'm starting to hate it too and that is sad.


Here is my proposal:

Normal Lab: Delete

Cruel Lab: Reduce Area Level to 3.0's Expansion Act 3
Now you can get boot and glove enchantment in a relatively early state of the game which is good and can prepare you for act 4 and onwards.
One run of this Lab will give you 1 Ascendancy point up to a maximum of 2.

Merciless Lab: Can be found in Act 8
The Area level will probably be a little lower than current lab which will make it easier to get the points.
Since you have to reroll Enchantments anyway getting one Ascendancy point each run seems like a fair and better progression than getting 2 at once.
Merciless Lab will prepare you for Act 9 and Act 10.
One run of this Lab will give you 1 Ascendancy point up to a maximum of 6.

Uber Lab: No Ascendancy points and is optional content.
It is a hard engame dungeon with big rewards.

Why this change?
For most builds its important to get Ascendancy points as early as possible.
What is the point of getting Ascendancy nodes when your character is already finished or you are already 20-30 levels overleveled?

Players want to enjoy the Ascendancy classes so don't make them grief.


Problems with current Lab:

Uber Lab is annoying and unnecessary.
What is the point of getting two more Ascendancy points when you have to be level 90 and insane damage to even do Uber Izaro??
The trials are shit because the traps deal too much damage.
Also in the burning ground one you get physically blocked by the infinitly spawning skeletons.

Blade Sentries and Spinning Blades deal too much damage.

Make Traps deal the same damage to Life than to ES.
Life builds have no way of replenishing their HP after they are out of flasks while ES regenerates indefinitly.


Endless Sting bleed damage is too high while moving.
Sentinel Traps should be a hindrance and not a get rekt.
They are placed in safe zones inbetween Trap cluster.
Thats fucking bullshit!

Opened a chest in uber lab with silver key it dropped 3 rare items
Ineffective -> Waste of time.
Make the rewards worth your time.
Something like a guaranteed random unique item or a selection of various flasks.
If you don't have insane damage uber izaro is impossible without insta leech.

Uber Izaro needs cooldowns.
Its not fun if he uses 3 skills almost simoultaneously.
You are forced to evade them unable to attack yourself.
His basic attack is overkill and he kills you with it even when you are half a screen away.

There is no need to make the last phase of the fight harder since it is already harder when you go for the keys. Dying in the last phase makes people ragequit and give up trying.

I probably forgot some things.
Need more brains, exile?

IMHO, you make some good points. The labyrinth just doesn't fit well with the rest of the super great game play that's in PoE. At least that's my high level overview of the OP. There are a number of factors that contribute to this and I think you have identified some important one's. When one goes through the story line of the game, it's fairly smooth. Labyrinth doesn't fit into this smooth story line nor does it fit into the same difficulty level, e.g., monster level to character level, therefore the common approach is to over level one's character as you and many others have pointed out.

although we do understand that Ascendancy classes have been so successful that they are no longer considered rewards but instead intrinsic parts of your character


They are no longer considered "rewards". It's official.
