Newbie question - how to transmute items in PoE?

Hi!

Newbie question - I saw number of tips to for example "transmute a flask". How do we transmute in PoE than? I searched through wiki and this forum and couldn't find an answer.

Sorry for the newbie question I have not reached the end-game yet.

just do what the Orb of Transmutation says in its description

You can't have the item equipped to transmute it. And it has to be white/normal, if it's blue/magic, you can use alterations to change the mods, augmentation to add 1 mod in case it has only 1 (max is 2 while magic), scouring to revert to normal rarity and regal to upgrade to golden/rare rarity. There's also the Chance Orb that changes from white/normal to a random rarity, including brown/unique.

As an idea of cost to craft with each orb, here's an approximate table of values:

Transmutation Orb = 1/40 of a Chaos Orb value
Augmentation Orb = 1/40 ...
Alteration Orb = 1/16 ...
Scouring Orb = 1/2 ...
Regal Orb = 1/1 ...

Wow it is so simple. I thought there's a cube (too much diablo I know...) or something needed where you put the items to transmute.
