Missing apex shard

No idea what happened to it. I might have sold it but usually I am pretty good about not getting rid of quest items. Anyways I killed vaal and now have no idea how to progress unless I need to kill all 3 bandits again?

no, just go talk to them. One of them should give you the apex and then redo the Vaal quest.
