Inquisitor flameblast totem question

Running inquisitor flameblast totem, like the rest of the world (as my 4th char).

The instruments of virtue node for the inquisitor where you get 30% spell dmg if you cast recently... I dont see tooltip dps going up after casting the totem and after the totem cast flameblast. Am I still getting the benefit from this? Does it apply after the totem is cast or after the totem casts flameblast?

You need to cast spell yourself. In your scenario:

You place totem
Totem casts spell

So you are not getting any bonus

Cast a lightning orb with pcoc curse on hit and random curse, problem solved.

Use your movement skill to proc the speed boosts, and a Orb of storms to proc your damage boost (along with power charge on critical, and in some cases like mine, a curse on hit with Enfeeble).

I was wondering if a hardcast curse, like flammability, would work. Just tested, and each time I do, my tooltip dps goes up. So I guess a hard cast curse works too.

Debating if I want to keep this ascendancy node then... I usually drop totems and then curse. I don't think the amped spell dmg is applied to the already casting flameblast from the totem if i curse after the totem is dropped.

The spell damage is nice, but the cast speed is the reason you take Instruments of Virtue. Cast speed is enormously important for flameblast. Do not drop the node.

Good god don't drop it.

You need to be Whirling or Charging or Slamming every five seconds (most of us do constantly for repositioning and Fortify) to keep your cast speed up.

Go read build guides. As I and others said,use Orb of Storms to proc the damage boost, along with vital Power charges and in many cases a curse as well.

The cast speed bonus is a cornerstone of the build along with the ignored resistance​s on critical. You need to be critting as much as possible, as fast as possible, or you are wasting the entire logic of flameblast totems.

You should be Whirling Bladesing to proc the acsendancy.

You're doing it wrong. 30% cast speed is HUGE for this build. Again...Whirling Blades will proc it.

Self casting a curse works. Going to stick with that, along with lightning warp, etc. Should be pretty good.

How is inquisitor best for this spec? Sure you can get 0% resits. but you can get negative resits (double curse) and higher CC higher CD with assassin. Like 95% and 600% ez. I hate totems but seems like only 4 ascendancy pts are useful with inquisitor so low utility.
