Which one is more useful? Elemental Focus support or elementel status ailments

Which one is more useful? Elemental Focus support or elementel status ailments? I couldnt decide.

Obviously enough, elemental focus is more useful if you don't really need the ailments.

There's no sure answer on this. It heavily depends on the build.

Do you play a cold build where you kill fast enough to not need freeze/chill? Use it.
Do you play a lightning build that crits a lot and often shocks enemies? Don't use it.
Do you play a lightning build that uses Elemental Overload and rarely, if ever shocks? Use it.
Etc.

Generally, if you're playing a build that can reliably cause its elemental status ailments, then you're better off not using it. The exception being if you're playing a build that has little access to support gems with "more" modifiers. Then it might be worth losing the status ailments.

Id be more precise. You meant Ignite builds because ele focus is actually great for some burn builds:)

answer to the original question: it depends. there can be many reasons not to use ele focus. enough of other good supports, freeze being useful for defense, shattering, chill (pandemonius for example), etc, etc..

Herald of ice is great for clearing. Putting in focus on such builds would slow down clear speed.

You're speaking from experience since 2.6.0? I tried HoI on my Legacy SC character and the explosion AoE is absolutely pitiful now, I had clear speed increase of maybe +2 to +3 radius.

Hopefully they simply forgot to adjust HoI explosion radius with the AoE refactor and they will give it a compensatory buff sometime soon.

I'm speaking from clearing a T16 map in 43 seconds versus much more if used focus post 2.6.

I think slower builds would be more heavily impacted by the aoe nerfs.
