Obtaining locked unique maps from other unique maps?

I just obtained a Putrid Cloister Map (T9 museum, north) drop while running a Maelstrom of Chaos (T8 Atoll, east). From what I remember when Altas first came out, you can only obtain maps adjacent to your current map if you haven't unlocked it. So, normally I could only get Purtid cloister by running Museums.
Has this changed since the beginning of Atlas? I do have Museum itself unlocked and bonus-completed. This is my first Maelstrom this league, and I don't have Putrid in Standard either. Or might it be particular to unique maps or Maelstrom?  Last bumped on Jan 28, 2017, 6:23:25 AM
