@PoE Infrastructure team: What technologies are you guys using?
Hi everyone.
I have played PoE when I got the beta years ago. I've played it again couple of times since then, but I have never stopped following the game and the progress it made throughout the years. Couple years ago I have started working as System Admin, then recently as an Operations Engineer. Working in the current "DevOps" culture, I have worked with, and followed a lot of tools and technologies that are being used more and more by a lot of companies, many of which are the gaming companies. Recently, I have read the blog, created by the tech guys at Riot Games, about their infrastructure, and the application of many tools they use for their servers. If anyone is interested, they have a great blog at https://engineering.riotgames.com The reason why I am creating this topic is because I would like to know if someone from the Infrastructure team (or Ops/Admin/DevOps/whatever the name is team), could give some insight in the technology behind Path of Exile. I understand you guys are much smaller team than a gigantic Riot Games, and I assume you dont have time to write blogs, so I was wondering if you could at least let us know the tools you are using, and maybe some high level overview of the infrastructure. Do you guys use your own servers, or are you in the cloud (AWS, Azure, Google...)? How do you provision servers, and what configuration management are you using. How many ppl do you have in your team working on this, and do you have any interesting things to share that people who are working in this area would find interesting? Tnx :) Last bumped on Jan 23, 2017, 12:15:20 PM
