Breach border not visible, no shading in breach

For whatever reason I cannot see the nice big fat border that's supposed to appear at the edge of breaches as they expand; I only know about its existence through videos and streams of others playing. This makes breaches quite the challenge since I need to squint at the faint shimmering of the breach to try to find the edge. I've tried messing with all sorts of graphics settings, switching between 64-bit and 32-bit clients, nothing. I have a friend who could see the border just fine on the exact settings as me. I am stumped. Here is a screenshot that I got as a breach was closing, note the half-chopped dead body of a breach monster as it disappears:
Win7 64-bit, my GFX card is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670 if it matters.

This is still relevant here in the Turmoil leagues by the way...
