Chat Filter: the Easy Way to Combat Goldspammers!
|
Hello, as many of us are aware of, Path of Exile is plagued by these Goldspammers filling the chat with their advertisements, and even if we report them it doesnt make us feel like we made a difference, because they just come back again and again and again with new characters, new accounts and new VPN's.
So, my suggestion to you GGG is that unless you like having goldspammers here in PoE, and want them to stay and spread their RMT cancer. Then we would like a chat filter option, much like the lootfilter, a way for us to filter out either certain characters, numbers or perhaps whole sentences from the chat. If you add in a default chat filter that you update from time to time it would even hide the goldspammers message to the new players that wouldnt otherwise know if buying stuff from them is illegal or not (of course it's illegal) and at the same time us veteran players would get a more useful tool for filtering trough the chat, and hiding alot of the cancer that is going trough the chat channels every single day, everything from images made up from dots to copypasta to "guess the facebreaker roll" spam and "flashbangs". It would make for a very good QoL update, so please, PLEASE! ADD A CHAT FILTER! That's all i wanted to say... " Your idea sounds great, but as anyone who has played an MMO which does have chat filters and RMT *cough* WoW *cough*can tell you: chat filters do not work. You can't program "intent" into them yet, and spammers will simply continue to vary their text until it gets through the filter. They would also simply come back on new accounts in WoW, where you literally purchased the game and subscription time to be able to spam, as there were no free accounts or free trials at all. If paying $45+ per account didn't stop them, I'm pretty sure a default chat filter won't even begin to cut it. :) |

" Ofc it's not illegal, its what you wanted to say :p It's against GGG rules, but it's far away from being illegal. Otherwise, having a default filter, doesn't help, as the spammers would instantly see, why they are being filtered. If ppl can filter individualy, well this is something they cannot really predict. About WoW spammers etc. Spamming is mostly done by the shops who don't care about anything but profit, so you can bet, they used hacked accs, or used credit card fraud to pay for them and spammed as long as they could. They wouldn't spend 45$ on the game just to spam. I know the pc version has a level 20 limitation for trading, does it have any min level requirements for chatting globaly? This might be something to make the entry point a bit harder, but wouldn't be a cure. Not sure, how they handle spam reports, if the ban the accounts or so, but I think the only meaningful measure woult be to silently silence them. So if reported x times, just stop broadcasting their messages without giving any error or anything. Maybe once in a while let a message go through, if they are re reported make it permanent. Ofc this could also be countered, by having multiple chars, checking if they can see, the other spambots messages, but it would require more efford. Its definitely a tough fight. |

" The problem is that the bots spam their message maybe one to three times then make new account and spam again, and they use VPN's to hide their IP adresses so that they cant be IP banned. hence why i suggested a filter so that we can filter them out |
