why are old threads showing up on front page???

I almost just replied to a thread that is on the front page--- from 2010!! I did this last week and got warned for 'necro-ing' despite the fact that it was a different thread on the front page..

It can also happen when someone bumps the wrong thread ID, missing the first or last digit tends to exhume some very old stuff. Shop thread programs use this function iirc?
