Unrelenting and elemental damage

Says when you have max charges elemental damage is reduced by 8%. Does this use the same mechanic as resists, or will I effectively have 83% resistances (assuming max resists)?

Neither. Reduced damage taken is different from resists, but multiplicative with them. If you have 75% resists, then the extra 8% reduction is the equivalent of moving up to 77%.

It isn't! It does exactly what it says, you take 8% reduced elemental damage. If you took 100 damage without it, you'd take 92 with it. That's very good.

That said, the main reason people love Unrelenting so much is the endurance charge gain.

Kind of the opposite - +x% to maximum elemental resistance is really strong. I was surprised to see Saffell's Frame is a cheap unique nowadays (1 alch or so?) - +4% all max resists means 16% less elemental damage taken, or 1/0.84 = 1.19 = 19% more eHP against Elemental Damage. How would you like to get 40% increased Life from one item? That's basically what Saffell's Frame does (sometimes better than 40% increased Life if you already have a lot of increased Life from other sources {passive tree}).

Also viperesque's estimate doesn't include Fortify. "Reduced" modifiers, when stacking additively, scale rationally - the closer you get that number to 100%, the more each +1% provides, approaching literal infinity. You generally can't get that much in POE, other than through Kongming's Strategem, another underrated shield.

If you already have default Fortify, 8% reduced elemental damage becomes 10% less elemental damage, or 11.1% more eHP against Elemental Hits.

How would you like to gain 23%+ increased Life from one line on one passive node? That's what Unrelenting does against Elemental Hits.

Fractional math is unintuitive :P

Interesting. Thanks for the explaination. I just regretted away from that node to take unstoppable since I keep getting frozen or pinned and killed (cyclone), but will be taking it again after uber as it was my best option even before your expanded explanation.
Ah, I see. I took both on my Juggernaut, along with Undeniable (acc/atk spd per acc). Believe it or not, even after skipping Unbreakable (2x body AR/StunImmune), I'm still hugely tanky against Physicl Hits. Go figure, Brass Dome is a strong item.

BTW I can expand on why I picked the increased maximum Life figures that I did if you or anyone else reading would like.
