Cold to fire conversion question
Hello guys.
If I, lets say use freezing pulse spell and then with a help of pyre convert the damge from cold to fire does this carry any double dipping properties? I mean if I then apply more elemental damage, more spell damage or more damage in general would it be applied twice - first to initial cold damge and then to actual fire damage? I know all player come and say : "ahahah nice, u have try a bot u get ban, sooo nice" but i tell u its just for try, for see and for know. I have use this 10 minutes maximum and i have insta uninstall." - some not-too-bright dude, 2013; Joined 2012, † 2013. Conversion occurs before all multipliers.
Converted Damage benefits from modifiers to the source-type. As such, there is no double-dipping possible. Quick and simple example: 100 Cold damage, 100% conversion to Fire 50% Increased Spell damage 100% Increased Cold damage 25% Increased Fire damage 100 Cold -> 100 Fire (from Cold) Fire damage is converted from Cold, so it benefits from all modifiers: 100 Fire * (1 + (50/100) + (100/100) + (25/100)) = 100 * 2.75 = 275 Fire damage Flat Fire damage (Anger, for example) will not benefit from the 100% Cold Damage. Ok, thx for clearing that out for me. One last question. So in that case what's the incentive for players to do such conversion? While I get fire to chaos for obvious reasons why cold to fire instead of just using pure fire skill? Anything that comes to mind? :P

No, conversion don't double dip.
Conversion always happens before any increases, but new element also benefits from increases to element it was converted from Ign: LavaMosse

There's a passive called Snowforged, which grants both Cold and Fire Damage. It's pretty okay.
But, I think more commonly the reason is Ignite, especially with Vortex. Increased Elemental Damage and Increased Fire Damage both apply to the Hit, and to the following Ignite (double-dipping); this is true for all Fire Damage builds. Vortex however has a special modifier that dumps Increased Spell Damage on top of this double-dipping pile too, for good measure. It allows for some pretty massive Ignites without sacrificing AoE capacity. Last edited by Vipermagi#0984 on Nov 30, 2016, 11:13:08 AM

From the other useful cases, when you do phys to fire conversion - e.g. signal fire and burning arrow, blast rain build. Then you have the ability to align your support gems better:
Bow Phys dmg (more modifier) Added fire (more modifier) Weapon elemental dmg (more modifier) Fire penetration (more modifier) So in this case the conversion provides very nice way to stack more support gem modifiers. MY CHALLENGES ARE DONE ON HC, IT'S NOT SC GUYS!
