patch 2.4.2 "fog enhancement"

Wow, this "improved" fog is terrible. Many areas look "washed" out, very monotone and flat. Especially areas with lots of pastel greys, tans and browns. Some of these areas look as if I'm using a 1st generation lcd panel from the late 90s.

For instance, Lioneye's watch is almost unbearable to be in now due to the flat contrast caused by this "fog".

Areas like the climb are even worse.

This fog idea should have been beta tested with feedback.

The really sad thing about this, it will likely remain this way. Does anyone at GGG ever think that maybe introducing this in a couple targeted areas to see how people respond might be a prudent idea? I'm being critical here because changing something like this across the board isn't making the game better, it merely makes it harder on many people's eyes.

I'm not using a cheap monitor either, Viewsonic VP2365-LED.

Reducing contrast and "softening" the feel isn't always going to have the intended effect of "gloom and darkness".

Well said

Modern gaming in general abuses fog in my opinion, your description is perfect, that how I feel about what I've been playing mostly

Spoiler
Maybe I shouldn't bring this up but Diablo 3 is an example of extreme fog abuse and the whole game looks really terrible because of it, Path of Exile made a step towards D3 visuals in a sense

I agree too on this. POE used to have a lot more "Dark" feeling to it. Now it looks like a grey mess. Like i'm playing son some cheap "Gaming" branded crap monitor. Please fix this or remove it and yes i play on a BenQ BL3200PT which is calibrated.
totally agree
+1 for sure!

Have GGG lost their damn minds?

Every area is now "foggy" and washed out. And to make matters worse the colors are disgusting!

Just run through act one right now. All the "nightime" areas are now as bright as the day areas, with teals and blues making this game look so cartoony.

How these are "improvements" is beyond me...

Bump for option(s) to turn off and/or to reduce fog.
Definitely needs to be an option to toggle on/off this fog. I don't like the current implementation at all.

Contrast and brightness is just right in hideout for example, but the coast and other places are just completely "washed out" by this fog.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if the fog effect is acting as a great demonstration of the poor quality of cheap displays. I know on my dads computer monitor it is literally impossible to tell the difference in Starcraft 2 multiplayer between:

Previously explored terrain (fog of war) & terrain that has yet to be explored (darker fog of war).

On my display there are clearly 2 different shades of transparent fog of war in Starcraft 2. There's various other issues like looking at his display from any angles other than directly at it causes severe loss of contrast between bright and dark elements. On my display there is a loss of contrast but nowhere near as bad as it is on his display
Computer specifications:
Windows 10 Pro x64 | AMD Ryzen 5800X3D | ASUS Crosshair VIII Hero (WiFi) Motherboard | 32GB 3600MHz RAM | MSI Geforce 1070Ti Gamer | Corsair AX 760watt PSU | Samsung 860 Pro 512GB SSD & Crucial MX 500 4TB SSD's

Don't take this the wrong way, but our monitors sucking is not the problem here.

Let me just illustrate what I mean with an example.

1. I buy a new monitor. I am happy, but those who cannot afford that are not.
2. GGG code in a toggle fog option, I buy a supporter pack, everybodys happy.

Just forcefeeding us "features" is not ok with me.

Naw I have high quality displays and I still think the fog is a bit... challenging. Not saying I have a huge problem with it, but a simple toggle in the options isn't a bad concept.
