lol, just played Racecourse boss for the first time.
Whose bright idea was it to cause the horse to have insanely high reflect damage with no tooltip warning?
What did I one-shot myself on, you ask? 4L utility skill Frenzy, of course. With all my buffs up, that's 2400-4023 Combined Hit Damage, or 4023 max. Assume a crit of 426% crit multi, that's 4023*4.26 = 17,138 single Hit damage, mostly Physical (damage profile of about 26% cold, 74% physical). 12,682 physical damage 4,456 cold damage Maximum Life: 5,508 Armour Rating: 28,209 with no Flasks Endurance Charges: 8 Soul of Steel +4% PDR Phys damage taken from Abyssus: 42% Fortify So, let's see. If it were 30% reflect all damage, I would have taken: [12682 * 0.3 * (1 - (28209/(28209+0.3*126820) + 0.36)) ] * (1 + .42 - 0.2) = 994.4 Physical Damage [4456 * 0.3 * 0.25] = 334.2 Cold Damage Sum: 334 + 994 = 1328 Would have survived with 3/4 Life or so. So I should be able to survive about 60% all reflect. Let's test: [12682 * 0.6 * (1 - (28209/(28209+0.6*126820) + 0.36)) ] * (1 + .42 - 0.2) = 3430.5 Physical Damage [4456 * 0.6 * 0.25] = 668.4 Cold Damage Sum: 668 + 3431 = 4099 Would have survived with about 1/5 Life left. Does this boss have 100% reflect damage when his reflect aura is active? With no tooltip warning and a different particle effect? I don't think that's good design. Atziri is the only other enemy I know with 100% reflect, and she's a specialized side boss with exclusive rewards and an elaborate summoning ritual. Racecourse Map Boss is just a Map Boss. Really, though? Spoilers: I ain't actually mad, I tried this on a relatively low level character (77) and I play SC, so I didn't really lose anything. I'd heard about this ahead of time and thought, the reflect can't be that bad, can it? I wanted to test. The reflect is that bad. HC players, don't hit Racecourse bull when he has the spiky aura up! It will hurt. EDIT: Updated calculations. I was overestimating the damage I would receive at certain reduction %s. Need game info? I mean, the reflect is very telegraphed...
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

I didn't notice the reflect, but to be fair, I fought the boss on a trapper XD
Combat is simple.

" yeah but there isn't much precedent. Rare monster and map mod reflect is all sub 40s as far as I know. If you're going to boost the value all the way up to 100% (!!!!!) you better at least put a frickin' tooltip on it. Right now when you hover over him you have no idea what is in store for you. (EDIT: I did have some idea what was in store for me but I was skeptical that GGG could do something so boneheaded as 100% reflect. I thought it would be 30% max, maybe 40% if we're feeling crazy. For someone who doesn't read forums or wikis, it's instant WTF death moment). It is like Atziri's mirror but Atziri is a Special Separate Outside-Normal-Mapping-System Optional Side Boss, so you are expected to look that shit up. Having to look up every single Map boss, have guaranteed death, or risk random deaths like this is kind of really unfun. Need game info? I wasn't aware there is reflect on those bosses (still not sure which one is it), until I read about it on the forum. I did die the first time I fought it (ranged pew pew), wasnt sure wtf happened and just filed it under "glitch" & moved on.
It's very poorly explained to the player wtf is going on. Maybe put a reflect aura indestructible totem in the middle of the room instead. At least the player would get instant feedback on what is going against. When night falls She cloaks the world In impenetrable darkness Last edited by morbo#1824 on Oct 5, 2016, 3:02:25 AM

From the 2.4.1 content update :
" There you go. They overnerfed the reflect .......... :/// They could have let like 20%, now its just a normal reflect aura ............... SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

" Yes, GGG always likes to go too far it seems, the biggest issue was the lack of tooltip warning. If we set 15% as normal reflect value, then yeah, pre 2.4.1 would be 400% more reflect damage, while 20% would be 33% more reflect damage, very reasonable. A little more reflect is reasonable to add flavour on a boss as long as there is tooltip and it can turn on/off. 75% no tooltip different aura is just ridiculous though. I almost have to think it was a typo. Why 75? Well I wrote 15 on a piece of paper and the programmer read it as 75%. Troll face! Need game info? Check out the Wiki at: https://www.poewiki.net/

Well there was an aura, they probably just made it more obvious.
Also I actually meant 30%, not 20% lol, misstyped. SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading. Last edited by Fruz#6137 on Oct 17, 2016, 1:20:31 PM

And how are players who don't constantly stalk wiki, reddit, and forums supposed to know what that aura means? The tooltip is essential for those players and of course massively helpful to forum/wiki/reddit lurkers.
30% or thereabouts is probably the max I could accept before calling design bullshit, up to 100% more reflect damage than ordinary monsters is reasonable, but beyond that the spike damage potential starts getting stupid. Even knowing reflect, you'd have to have good control/Internet to not half-splat yourself. On a T6 boss. But of course since it doesn't have full uptime and it FINALLY has the tooltip, 30% or whatever double normal reflect is would be fine. 15% a bit dull but it does at least differentiate itself from other map bosses.
