Remnant of Corruption almost makes no sense considering Vaal Orbs exist
I don't understand why Vaal Orbs are not being utilized for this mechanic. They're such a great orb and it seems totally misplaced that remnants of corruption would just be this random thing you sometimes get. If you want to corrupt essences, you should just use an Vaal orb. Vaal Orbs are fucking fantastic design-wise and should drop more often in essence - they honestly need a QoL improvement as well, thanks to the new ascendency enchants and base types - they could use a bit of a power bump.
Let us use Vaal Orbs to corrupt essences. Get rid of the unnecessary rare spawn. And while we're at it, get rid of the "does nothing" effect and instead have it have a higher chance to brick or improve the item in question. I agree, it's weird having Vaal Orb essences. It's almost like they thought Alc and chaos orbs would be jealous if Vaal Orbs didn't also get an essence counterpart.
I disagree with your corrupted rare suggestion though. Chance to do nothing is fine. Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

Vaal orbs used to corrupt Essences would have been ok with me. But now I get to save my Vaal orbs for maps.
I agree that removing the 'do nothing' result from corruption would be nice. Softcore, solo self-found.

I don't get it. Why not also complain that T1-T5 essences do the same thing as alc orbs or T6-T7 essences do the same thing as chaos orbs?

" +1 "Does nothing" is boring. Giving it a higher chance to improve the item AND to brick the item will not hurt balance in any way, and will make it less boring. Atm most people only use vaal orbs to corrupt maps. bleh... Wash your hands, Exile!

" That would probably be because the essences have at least a little altered funtionality. You can force one affix. Remnants of corruption have the exact same functionality as a vaal orb. They almost exactly mimic how a vaal orb interacts with maps. |

" Good point. I suppose I really want to see greater bricking/improving potential on items, since I use vaal orbs similarly to you. I have an SSF unique collection on which I like to use them, you see. ;) Most people do indeed use them on maps, you know... Wash your hands, Exile!

It would be kind of weird if you could craft essence mobs with vaal orbs but not any other type. Usually the vaal orb option existing means that transmutes, alchs, alts, etc. also work.

I think they did it as a way to control/minimize the availability of the corrupted essences since they are more valuable and there is also the possibility of +1 essence/tier.
I don't know about everyone else, but I have found less than 15 essence of corruption with a level 84 and a level 90 and actively looking for essence monsters. I've found probably 8 times that amount in Vaal Orbs and I am not even trying to get them. |
