Steam taking too long to install patches

The updating process usually takes about 20-30min for patches of all sizes, i dont know if its supposed to take that long.*Yes, its only path of exile that takes that long, other games take 1~min for the installing process.

I was playing on the Steam client for over a year and just switched to the stand-alone client. I was sick of watching 15MB patches takes 30+ minutes. I am not sure if it's just how Steam handles the patching or something on GGG's side, but it drove me crazy.

+1 .. waited more than 4 hours for 65 mb patch.

98MB with average DL speed 3KBps

nothing wrong with my ISP, i can watch 720p without buffering, yet this problem occur when i download patch

I play on steam so I feel your pain. From what I gather it has to do with the way steam patches the game. When updating poe, steam creates a copy of the 6+gb ggpk in the cache and then scans it in comparison with the new information to apply the changes. . . It then overwrites the old file with the new copy of the ggpk. Needless to say it takes some time to copy a 6gb file. If the 15 minutes or so it takes to do this is too much of an issue, I recommend getting the standalone client as it uses a different method to patch from what I understand. I'm not sure how to go about getting your characters transferred over to the new account though which is why I haven't done so. The constant 2 and 3mb downloads the last few days make for a frustrating experience.

I'm having the same issue here, every time I open up steam to play POE it says I have a 100% path done and then it takes 15-20 mins to update a patch I can't even see. This is annoying as hell considering I'm just waiting to play instead of doing something else.
