Error Installing Path of Exile

Whenever I try to install PoE I get an error that says "The specified account already exists." and then when I click OK I get an error code "0x80070643 - Fatal error during installation"
I'm sure that I've completely uninstalled Path of Exile before trying to reinstall it. I'm not sure how to fix this issue Last bumped on Feb 20, 2025, 9:01:31 PM

That's a strange error. You shouldn't be creating an account if you already have one and are just re-installing the game. Is this on Steam or downloading the standalone client?
Have you tried restarting your computer since uninstalling the previous copy? Assuming it's the standalone client, are you right-clicking and choosing Run as Administrator? Could be a corrupted profile. Have you tried logging into a different Windows admin account? I find it difficult to justify optional purchases to support a Tencent-owned development studio that declines to provide customers Technical Support, regardless of how many thousands of euros that customer has spent...

I'm not trying to create a new account, I get the error while running the installer. I'm trying to install the standalone client.
I've restarted my computer a couple of times since uninstalling. I am running as administrator. I haven't tried logging into a different Windows admin account, I'll try that next. |

Just got this error myself.
The problem is NOT within PoE installer. It is a problem with Windows tool for opening MSI files (installation files) Most likely you have had PoE installed before. See if you can find it somewhere there on your disk, or go to Windows Settings, Apps, find Path of Exile on the list, Uninstall It worked for me |
