Don't have multi-coloured gems unless they can socket into both colours.

Given how particular this game is about wording and terminology I find this an disturbing lapse. It is extremely misleading for new players too.
Green Gem = Green Socket. Multiple-coloured gem =/= multiple colours of sockets.... what?

It's not a 13 week development cycle, it's a 13 week supporter-pack cycle.
You can play any build you want, as long as it's the current meta.

I agree this is stupid.

It is hard to tell which socket type they slot in to.
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

True can be tricky but if you think about what it does, you can reach a conclusion.

This is How I think the Logic behind it should be:

Cold to Fire: Element Mechanic -> Witch is main Elemental base -> Witch main attribute Int -> Blue

Physical to Lightning -> Physical conversion Mechanic -> Physical Damage -> Marauder is main Physical base -> Marauder main attribute Str -> Red

Trap and Mine Damage Support -> Trap Mechanic -> Ranger/Shadow main Trap characters -> They have Dex in Common -> Main trap spells and supports are Dex Based -> Green

Edit:Don't think my point of view was clear, so edited so that you can perceive it.

It's funny because cold to fire is actually red

and physical to lightning is actually blue

Of course i'm all for mnemonics to to help you remember, but to me, mnemonics are often just as arbitrary as remembering "it's red" or "it's blue"

probably the better way to do it is just look at the str and int requirements: whichever is higher is probably the colour.

Just payed attention to the gems design for a few second now, if you look closely:

-Cold to Fire has more Red then Blue on the gem colouring. Is red socket
-Physical to Lightning has more Blue then Red on the gem colouring. Is blue socket
-Trap and Mine Damage has more Green then Blue on the gem colouring. Is green socket

that could be a way to distinguish
I think having gems that could socket into 2 different colors would be an interesting new mechanic for the game.

It wouldn't have a HUGE effect because usually recoloring isn't usually a huge issue, but it would be a decent QoL feature for leveling and whatnot.

Agree
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.
