Vigilant Strike useless as it is. Suggestions.

Vigilant Strike needs a selected target to have effect, it makes you to use normal attack if it's on cooldown or u lack mana, this makes this skill useless as hell cause it uses resources to be used frequently, most of the time u wont hit anything and use your endurance charges to 0 without killing anything.
I dont see any builds around that use vigilant strike for any purpouse, to fix this and make it usable it needs to have an full effect even when no monster is selected and a mechanics sililar to blink arrow while its on cooldown or you lack mana.
With this, vigilant strike linked to melee splash will acually do something insteed of just atk animation that does nothing.

Vigilant Strike is actually borderline OP because you can use it to get guaranteed Fortify when in melee range with just 1 gem slot, for a Spell caster. Hits can't be evaded on a non-Vaal skill gem is massive especially when it grants 20% reduced hit damage taken.

Yea like any caster will get into close range and risk to get hit before he gain fortify...
Anyway Back to the topic, from mine experience any skills that use charges are eather AoE or auto-aimed, to make this skill work as primary DMG source it needs to act like non-target AoE when linked to Melee splash, otherwise its just too crappy to use with attacking build
Unless GGG just want it to be useless crap just for Fortify.

This isn't really just feedback about vigilant strike; it also applies to Viper Strike, Infernal Blow, Static Strike, Frost Blades, Dominating Blow, Double Strike, Heavy Strike, Glacial Hammer, Dual Strike, Wild Strike, and also the melee versions of Frenzy, Elemental hit and Puncture.
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:
