Pre-load torrent is a sham

Seemingly with the pre-load, you still have to download 3.8 gb while those who don't pre-load only download ~2.2gb

People report the same with Ascendancy so they deleted the pre-load torrent, put their backup in and updated that since the download is smaller.

Why goes GGG bother with this? The "pre-load" takes far longer.

I grabbed the torrent and used it, only had to download around 800Mbs through the patcher. *shrugs*

I'm using the stand-alone client if that matters.
Just a lowly standard player. May RNGesus be with you.
Yeah, stand-alone (GGG) client seems to work. For the steam client it makes you download even more. Meaning on steam client, if you don't replace your ggpk file with the pre-load torrent file, you download less.

Very nice work by GGG of course.
The torrent wasn't for the steam client version though, if you tried using it for steam then it's likely you would end up re downloading the whole GGPK, even then patching with steam usualy requires that steam makes another GGPK file every time it patches, which is why you see a load of moaning when the game is patched for a few MB and steam takes forever

The time played counter, some of the social bollocks and as a method of payment(think you can pay into the steam wallet from more sources than what GGG offers normally)
