Can't use Shield Charge Question

I have a Scion using a wand, and a shield, but when I equip Shield Charge gem it always says. "Skill can't be used."??
I am wondering if this is a bug, or if I am doing something wrong here.... My shield is Springleaf, and my weapon is Moonsorrow. Can you not used Shield Charge with a wand?? The Shield Charge skill gem specifically says "Melee".
Wands are ranged weapons. |

Yeah, that's one weird logic. To use "melee" skill you have to use melee weapon, even if skill itself doesn't(or rather shouldn't) use it.
And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.
