I wouldn't say wands are necessarily shit. The problems to me seem more like a) Whirling Blades and b) because spell damage and generally spell crit are pretty much mandatory for any caster weapon, and because they're so damn hard, to roll, benefiting from the upsides of a wand (cast speed/projectile speed rolls, mainly) is so damn expensive that most people don't bother.

" I almost always go wand for thematic reasons, and wish GGG would give wands a little more love. I did try an Axe once for a HC caster witch (Ice Spear and Leap Slam). The character was a lot of fun to play, but barely made it to act 3 Cruel before she leapt into one pack too many in the Docks.
