Playing PoE on satellite internet with 600-700ms ping.

Managed to get to level 78, I could probably get into the 80s, but I had to eventually call it quits due to hitting a wall I couldn't overcome with that high ping. FYI, I like 90% of what they've done. A lot of people hate on 'scamdro', but the inclusion of him makes it more viable for people to play self found and have a shot at finding some decent items. Trying to navigate traps in labs with 700ms ping is pretty damn close to impossible. I got lucky and made it through once or I wouldn't have slayer ascendancy on my character, but we're talking 1 out of 20 something attempts here. Also bosses/mobs that have attacks you're supposed to avoid is another problem that will no doubt get me murdered in high level maps. So yeah, with 700ms ping its either face tank and DPS it quickly, or you don't win. FYI I don't expect them to nerf the game so playing end game with shitty internet is viable.


A lot of people say the economy is screwed on Perandus, but I prefer the economy be a buyers market. Prices are relative, if you can't sell items for as much then that also means items you want are likely to be comparatively less as well. I'm a huge fan of the unID'd vendor combo for 2 chaos orbs. You can buy mediocre to decent rares for that price on poe.trade, something at least good enough to get you through merciless and lower to mid tier maps.

Yeah its either that or 768k DSL, or dial up. 768k is barely viable for even surfing the web, and its speeds are too slow to download anything. Satellite is 15mb/s, at least I can download and play games (offline) on that connection.

A few pointers I'd give to any new players playing on Perandus. USE POE.TRADE for fucks sake. If you're wondering whether an item from scamdro is worth the coins, its just basic math. 1 chaos = 100-120 coins. If the item in question costs more coins than its comparative value in chaos orbs on poe.trade, then its not worth it. Also, don't buy from people in trade chat. People are asking 1-2ex for items you can get for a few chaos on poe.trade. I can't emphasize this enough, especially in a league like perandus that's a buyer's market, DO UNID vendor combos for 2 chaos once you get to merciless. Farm chaos orbs, buy gear from poe.trade = win.

I also use really bad internet, only ever made it to level 55 on hardcore, but it's doable. I'm getting nice internet on friday, can't wait to start HC again

I'd probably toss my monitor out the window and throw a chair out right behind it if I lost a high level HC character to a lag spike/disconnect. I'd be triggered as fuck. Someone would have to call 911 for the police to show up and taze me and escort me to the local psych ward. This is why I don't play HC, especially on shitty internet.

I also have Satellite internet. I know the pain man. For the Labyrinth you'll just have to time it right and clench lolol. Sometimes the desync will just right out murder you and there's nothing you can do about it. You try to run away from a pack, they desync you back, try to run again, and get desynced again and die. The game is fun to play but if you don't kill anything fast enough, tanky enough, or be touched by the hand of RNGesus, you're dead. I've done T12 maps and below and the highest character is lvl 91. You'll just have to play a bit slow until you get used to the timing~

The spike traps are the worst. I'll think I made it past a trap section, just to get rubber banded way back to the first spike trap. Try to leap slam forward, or use whirling blades just to keep bouncing back to the spike trap till I'm dead. In situations like that its maybe a 50/50 of me breaking free and getting through. Lockstep is even worse with that high ping. I did a little better once I disabled it.

It wasn't the mobs I had a problem with, even merc labs, even merc Izaro I could take out easily if I could just make it to him. I had enough DPS to take out Izaro. What fucks me up more than anything is how much damage those traps do. I got over 400/sec life regen and those traps zip my HP bar like I got no regen at all. Some of those traps would have to be doing around 2500 damage a second, and that's just nuts.

Whats satellite internet? Satellite phone is like $1500 a month I know because my dad is a linesman foreman for PG&G and they give him one to be guaranteed to talk anywhere and he works in the sticks a lot.
