PoE kills my WiFi completely
I haven't been able to find any reference to this in the FAQ thread so I figured I'd make a thread for it.
Whenever I play, within 20 minutes maximum not only will I be disconnected from the game but my wireless will stop working entirely. First it will lose my wireless signal completely and refuse to connect to any other wireless network, and after about 5 minutes my WiFi will stop registering available connections entirely until my computer is restarted. This does not happen at any other time except when I attempt to play PoE. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but in the year I've been on my current wireless provider this is the only game that has ever done this to me, so naturally this is very confusing and more than slightly annoying for me. |

" What kind of wifi card do you have? Who is your wireless provider..? |

" Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN for the wireless card; I'm checking with my landlord to see what the ISP is, will update when I get a response. EDIT: Timewarner cable. I forgot to mention that this only began happening for me with the most recent update. Prior to that I was able to play all throughout the closed beta as well as once the beta opened to the public with no disconnection issues. " ISP doesn't matter, now that I know you have a WLAN card that's all we need. I'm assuming you are using windows - go to start >> control panel >> administrative tools >> event viewer. Create a custom view, and then click the source bubble. Under event sources, select all options that begin with network. Under Event ID (Should be the next box below it, type in 6100. Let me know what you find, if nothing, try removing 6100 and look through the remaining logs and see if you can find any errors. If you still have nothing, play again until you get disconnected, and then check for a log with the time stamp of when you got disconnected. Let me know if you have any questions, and below is an example of what your logs should look like. imgur.com/PAJZftn.jpg Last edited by Lask001#4507 on Feb 18, 2013, 10:59:14 PM

Strangely enough, a complete uninstall and redownload of the game seems to have fixed the problem for me. I don't know if this is related to the update from earlier tonight or not, but I played for a couple hours without any interruption tonight.

I have also been experiencing this issue since the 10.1e patch. It may have began in -d or -c, but it was not as irritating. Before today (and by today I mean the last 24 hours) I thought it was just some hiccups with the servers due to the races, but today I realized that I was not just being disconnected from the server, but that my computer would momentarily think that there was no wireless signal to connect to.
Symptom: Mid-game, the monsters would stop attacking -- they would freeze or follow me around but not land any blows. I would be unable to hit them, although i would be able to move. I could open my inventory with the keyboard shortcut, but would be unable to click on anything. Event: I'd be kicked off with an error about connecting and my computer would behave as if it were not communicating with the wireless modem-router. After about 5-10 minutes, it would re-connect as if nothing had happened. I have not been able to figure out what triggers the crash, but it has caused me to both die in battle and irritate me while sorting my stash. I tried uninstalling/re-installing and no change in behavior. I tried the event log and no events were returned with 6100, but I did get this: (I can't figure out how to do an image or table, so here it is, as best I can textually show it. I filtered for the last hour so the following represents one instance of the problem) EVENT 1 of 5: Source: NetworkProfile EventID: 10001 Task Category: None EVENT 2 of 5: Source: NetworkProfile EventID: 4001 Task Category: Wait for Identification EVENT 3 of 5: Source: NetworkProfile EventID: 10000 Task Category: None EVENT 4 of 5: Source: NetworkProfile EventID: 4002 Task Category: Wait for Identification EVENT 5 of 5: Source: NetworkProfile EventID: 10000 Task Category: None The only other thing I had done differently was log into the game with my laptop the day before yesterday, requiring that I use the unlock code. I then had to do the unlock process again once returning home to my desktop. Might that have something to do with the "Wait for Identification" thing? Thanks for your help! UPDATE: It is worse on the European and Singaporean servers. Last edited by MackBesmirch#0771 on Feb 25, 2013, 6:10:31 AM

Hi, Everyone. I may have stumbled upon a solution.
I realized that my connection was dropping out even when I was not running PoE. For some strange reason, it only started around the same time as the PoE races, so I had naturally assumed it was something with the game. I have troubleshot two possible issues today, but have not had ample time to test them. Maybe look into them yourself and also test them with me? 1) My wireless network was marked as a "Public Network on my Windows 7 Network and Sharing Center. This is messed up cuz I set it up just months ago as a home network when I moved. I must have at some time accidentally clicked around while troubleshooting something and neglected to properly set it up. 2) I found this on this forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/b3915c19-9ba9-439a-bdd7-d4bfba20d5ac Basically, windows was for some reason turning off my wireless card to save power (why would they think that's a good idea?). There's other ways to find this option to uncheck it, but here's the steps i took. Hope it helps you. Control Panel Network and Internet Manage Wireless Networks Adapter Properties Configure Power Management Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power (Seriously, what brain genius thought it was a good idea to shut down a main system to save power without even telling me? That's like a space ship deciding it can save power by shutting down navigation or life support and then forgetting to mention it to the crew.) Try it and see if it works for you? I'm working all day today so I'll post back with my results. |

" That very well could have been the problem - I know my tablet does that sometime if I don't load anything for a while, but that's weird that it happens during a game. I could understand if it was something like web surfing, but really weird for it just to happen for PoE. |
