Orb of Chance vs. Orb of Alchemy

Orb of Chance vs. Orb of Alchemy? They seem to do the same thing: both convert a regular item into a rare yellow item. What's the difference? Is there an advantage to one over another? I just know that orb of alchemy is rarer drop than the Chance.
Chances transform a plain item "to a random rarity", meaning magic (blue), rare(yellow), or potentially even unique.

As with any other item drop, blue is the most common, and unique the least common outcome. The odds of chancing a base item into its unique variant are based on the rarity of that particular unique though, so only a few bases are really worth the chancing attempts.

For me I use alchemy orbs on good bases / linked items that could potentially be an upgrade. Chance orbs I use on bases with a nice or expensive unique version. In this league I'm also chancing strong boxes to try to get a unique version for the challenge. I wouldn't bother trying to use chances to get a rare, if it's good enough to want it rare, you might as well ensure that result with an alchemy orb.

Which bases have a good chance?
I've been chancing topaz flasks all league with no luck.
Thinking about giving up on that and chancing jewelry for chaos.
Where there's one they're bound to divide it right in two.

I'm not 100% certain, but I would assume that Vessel of Vinktar can't be chanced. That's certainly true of the other uniques that don't randomly drop.

The probability of chancing a unique is dependent on the rarity tier of the unique. You're much more likely to chance a Kaom's Sign than a Kaom's Heart for example. However, the only uniques that are cost effective to do so are expensive tier 1s. If I were you I'd only chance Sorcerer Boots right now, since Skyforth is so much more valuable than anything else you could possibly chance.
Have you done something awesome with Sire of Shards? PM me and tell me all about it!

I watched this video and somehow got it in my head it was a Topaz... Then went and looked up what could be chanced from Topaz and was like "yeah, I want one of those"... RIP all those Chance Orbs, oh well, lol.

Good call, Viperesque. Earlier this league I forgot to swap out lgoh when I switched from leveling as melee to being a caster. Two pretty bad noob moves this league for me.
