Is it "legal" under POE rules to sell character names for POE currency? (Question for the community)
I have a bunch of 1 word and 3 letter acronym original usernames and I'm wondering if I would be able to sell them for POE currency. I'm not selling the account. I would be selling the username. If someone agreed to pay for it, I would delete the character with the name on it and then it would be back in the pool of obtainable names. Is that legal under terms and conditions of selling?

Hiya, thanks for asking about this. Unfortunately trading names for currency or real money is not allowed and could result in a ban.

" Thanks for the reply. I figured I'd ask about this before doing so. I appreciate the response! |

"Out of curiosity: if this is ToS violation, then which clause of ToS is in contradiction with such behaviour? And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.

" Section 6h (h) Perform in-game services during your use of the Website, Materials or Services for any form of compensation outside of POE. Please contact support@grindinggear.com if you need any assistance.

" which may imply that doing so for compensation within POE is fine. but language to address selling a character name for 3 chaos or such is too niche and specific for the TOS i'd imagine. |

" Speaking from a lawyers perspective, this clause does not prohibit selling the name for poe currency. Even if it would, this would outlaw payed Atziri services or anything like that. You may want to rephrase that section. IGN: Darkrox (not my main, just for easy contact)

" They don't need to, they told you explicitly here that it's not allowed, also as with almost every online game since you agreed to the ToS they can ban you for anything they feel like regardless of trying to twist words to suit you Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi

At first glance it seems like selling a name is pretty innocent. But allowing it could lead to name spamming. Somebody could create a bunch of accounts and create hundreds or thousands of names. Finding a name can already be a pain for new characters/players. If people were allowed to spam thousands of names, it would become a big mess. Imagine a first time PoE player who walks away in frustration because the first 50 names they tried are taken.
I even thought about a level 25 rule similar to trading currency. But that doesn't stop people from creating the names to start with. If the price is right, they can level the character before selling it. The whole thing would just become a big mess if it were allowed. |

" Atleast in my country this is not the case. Statements here are not part of the ToS and therefor are never agreed on by both parties. Furthermore games with micropayments are not considered to be on a loan agreement base, meaning they can't be canceled as the publisher wishes - this is also stated in Section 16 of the ToS " Cancelation for no reason in this context would atleast break the law here and is therfor not allowed by the ToS itself. I wont elaborate this any further, because as stated before, this only applies to my country. I just wanted to point out, that the ToS and the statement don't fit.
