Direct url to specific character?
Is there a way to make a link so that a specific character's profile comes up? I tried adding /character name to my profile link but it didn't change which character was front and center. The scroll hasn't worked on my ipad for a forum update or two so I can't get to all my characters to check gear and inventory.
My profile is public and selecting different characters doesn't change the visible url https://www.pathofexile.com/account/view-profile/mark1030/characters. Thanks, and I hope somebody can help. Or fix the forum so the scroll works on character lists again on ios devices! Hi mark1030!
Thanks for posting this. Unfortunately, there is no current way to link to a specific character using your profile page. The closest option available is https://www.pathofexile.com/account/view-profile/mark1030/characters, but as each character is handled outside of HTML, we are unable to provide a direct link. I hope this helps to confirm! It may help to check for possible flash/java updates on your portable device, or a different browser. ✮ Please contact support@grindinggear.com if you need any help!

Thanks for the response. I saw no way to get flash added to Safari. Why did it work for a period of time? It should work with the default browser on all apple devices.
I downloaded another browser that it works on. But it's unfortunate I had to do that. In the future I hope you add a way to link directly to a character. I posted my build on our guild forums because somebody wanted to know about it. Instead of having them find my character in a list, it'd be nice if the link could have taken them to the right place. "+9000! Really want that a lot. Simpler to use and might cut down on the toxic 'ad-hominem's that tend to rise from people digging though the whole list instead of the character you want help/opinion on. Seriously, forum searching for how to do it ended up with this "No and that is official." answer. |

Cugol,
We generally advise against bumping old threads because they often contain outdated information. You should be able to do so by appending ?characterName=NameGoesHere to the URL. As your profile is set to private, here's an example from Mark1030's profile; https://www.pathofexile.com/account/view-profile/mark1030/characters?characterName=DanielLaRusso However if your privacy settings do not allow people to view your characters, this won't work. The author of the thread noted that his profile was set to public and he just wanted to choose which character was loaded initially. If your query is different then it'd be best expressed in a different thread so that this (rather old) thread can go back asleep. :) I would briefly say that I'm opposed to GGG changing how it works. If people don't want others to be able to view their characters, then someone knowing their character name should not allow them to gain access anyway. It's up to you to choose whether your characters are public. Last edited by Sarno#0493 on Mar 17, 2018, 11:36:33 AM

Thanks for noticing.
What I was looking for is twofold: 1) a way to insert a character link in a forum (like here or on steam), without unchecking the private checkbox for the char list. 2) adjust which character show up on forum. Yesterday it was showing most used abyss league char, today it is showing my SSF bestiary league char. Not sure I can agree with the "dont bump old threads". It was one the only relevant threads that had a ggg response - most of the other hits were about account linking which I got sorted out long ago with some speedy help. And you are right, I set it the char list to private *exactly* to avoid exposing the whole list. The steam forum has a bunch of real assholes that jump on anyone not in the top 5%. It is like locks in RL, you don't have and use them to keep out good and moral people who wont come in uninvited nor abuse such access, it is to stop the bad ones. I was hoping for some more like the WOW armory which you might be familiar with. Exposes characters, the stuff they are wearing, and the talent build - of every character on every server of everyone. It does not reveal who it belongs to, what is in the inventory, and what other characters are owned by the same account. If I understand you correctly, that is still not possible without opening the whole character list. |
