What did you use to log out? Many logout methods have a delay. For example I alt f4d out with about 6k ES remaining against bonespire and logged in dead. Apparently it's better to go to character selection screen.

Going to character selection screen adds a lot of internal network activity that has to occur before it logs you out. This is strictly the slowest way of doing it!
