How Does Trading Work/What Items Are Worth Saving?

Hello, Fellow Exiles.

I am new to PoE and I was wondering how the economy works! How do I trade with other players and what Items are the most valuable? I am a level 22 Shadow and I don't plan to trade with another player until I reach end game, by that time I should know what I am doing, I am only asking now so I can learn what items to save and sell later! Thanks!

You endure what is unbearable, and you bear it. Good Luck, Fellow Exiles.

Ah trading.

Fuck trading.

Trading is simple, yet, a chore... that is, if you dont want to be self found based.

Trading can be done in many ways, the most popular (for specific items) is to head to this website

poe.trade

And search up the item you want...

As for currency trading, the best way in my honest opinion, is to wait until you're in act 3 or 4 merciless, look at the noticeboard, and there are public parties in which you can enter to trade currency.

For example

If you want to sell 500 chromes (probably not accurate, but its an example) for 1 exalted orb, just go to an act 3 or 4 noticeboard, look for a party with the title "WTB chromes 500:1" or something similar to that, enter it, and discuss the trade :)

Do not, i repeat, Do not go into the trade chat, its nothing but bots (mostly bots anyway) and no one really pays attention there.

Hope this helps!

http://poe.trade/ is a good place to start. I personally like to check 'buyout only' and 'online only' to turn the experience into a fairly quick and efficient one, because I'm a serious bargain hunter in-game (because I am one broke-ass bitch most of the time). Nice rigorous search engine, but expect a lot of afkers and to invest some time.

If you don't plan to trade yet, I'd recommend just enjoying the game as it is. Save your currency, save any uniques you find as *most* will be at least worth a chaos or two. Quality gems by and large aren't worth as much as they used to be. Basically, if you find something you feel might be worth something, search for it on poe.trade and see what hits you get. Rares are, of course, much harder to price but given time you'll get a feel for what mods and what values are worth something.

That's all I can offer. I_NO could truly enlighten you, if we can improve her mood.

Maybe tickle her totally-not-fat belly? Or feed her a sandwich. Because dinosaurs can't eat sandwiches without help.

I'm no master trader but here's what I've found so far.

As others have said, check out the notice board in Act 4 Merciless (or the highest area you are in). People post up trades all day and some decent stuff can be found from real people.

Use poe.trade. Invaluable place to find stuff. I too check online and buyout from the options. I don't want to haggle or discuss prices. I pay what's listed.

Ignore trade chat, but through all the noise, sometimes you can find nice things. Up to you if you want to invest your time on it.

Random uniques don't sell. Search Vertex or Sin Trek or Doryani's Invitation or one of the many many more common uniques. There are thousands for sale. 5ex to 1 alc. Only the best and rarest will usually move or move quick if you priced it right. You can hold on to stash tab after stash tab of uniques and list them for a chaos, but there are hundreds of people online competing for your sale. You'll exhaust your storage space long before you make it profitable imo. The Brittle Emperor divination card, for example, is highly sought after. 3ex easy if you find one. Everybody wants one. Atziri's Acuity is probably the highest and most stable priced item in the game and hundreds of people have them for sale. They are worth from 60-100 ex and if you do get one, they are worth that, but since so many have them, you'll be hard pressed to sell them at a reasonable time unless you get lucky.

Usually it's all about the GG rolled rares. Perfect belts with 3 high rolled resistences. Or bows with +3. Or six-linked anything. Knowing how prefixes and suffixes on items work is beyond useful information. Crafting too (so get your master levels up) is really important to make items shine. Jewelry (rings, amulets, belts) are highly priced if they roll really well. The rolls can be IR or high resistances, or high damage, or high defense or high life. Good rule of thumb is to look for really high rolls on really high ilevel gear. And when the rolls compliment a certain class or popular build. Perfect rolls, unique, rare, whatever, are worth currency too.

It's a steep learning curve and you gotta understand the fundamentals of this game or just follow the trends. But it's no easy task. You will have to invest at least a fair bit of stash space if you want to make bank and if you price them low enough, you have to ask yourself is it worth going back to your hideout and coordinating a sale for like 5 fuses.

EDIT: I've been experimenting with leveling empowers and enlighten gems. A level 3 goes for a few Exalted. If you can get it to level 4, you can make around 20-25 exa. Chances aren't great, but I've been steady leveling those gems as much as I can. Takes a while but it's a decent way to pad your exalts. Truly though, I've only made serious exalts on legacy gear or solid stuff (like a 6L Mahori) over just random trinkets here and there. I don't really have the fortitude to run around all day for a few fuses or chaos though :p

This is a great question. One thing that I'm most surprised about in regards to this game is the poor state of trading. It feels like some players are opposed to an AH in PoE because they would rather exploit the markets than play the game (e.g., spend their time flipping items rather than killing mobs).

To answer your question, there are no good ways to trade if you just want to enjoy playing PoE as an ARPG. The previous replies describe some of the best ways to trade, but all of them require you to sacrifice substantial amounts of time that could be better spent killing mobs.

Society rejected bartering a couple thousand years ago. Perhaps GGG will do so as well some day.
This is how I play

You find yellow stuff = You sell in to a vendor.

You level Elron up to 6, and use the remains of the yellow stuff for jewelers stuff.

You level Vorichi up to 6 and trade circle stuff for fuse stuff.

After one week you have an exalt worth of fuse stuff.

Waste the exalt on something stupid like a level 20 Animate Guardian.

Win.

If for what ever reason you enjoyed my half a thousand posts in the account PrinceOfPuddles you should will find the same Elemental Hit lover on this account. Probation no longer closes shops so I have no fear to use my acualy acount instead of my alt. Also showing off my new supporter tags ~ _,~
If you're playing in Standard, you can pretty much forget about trying to find items in the game that will sell. You wont. The game is flooded with items that people found.

What you need to find is stuff people use up.

Currency items, maps, corrupted fragments, quality gems... stuff like this will always have value.
Trading in PoE is like art. Most will not care about it,but you need to find that one guy.
