ERA celebrates 10th anniversary with new emphasis on sustainable roofing

To celebrate their 10th anniversary, the EPDM Roofing Association (ERA) is choosing to emphasize a new focus embodied in the phrase, “A roof for every climate.” Their goal is to support scientific research which studies what types of roofs and roofing materials are most ideal for different climates across the United States and the world. As part of this goal, they aim to educate the public on various roofing choices ideal for different weather conditions and to circulate information about “the long-term environmental impact of roofing.”

Chairman wants to answer public’s questions on roofing standards

John Geary, ERA’s Chairman of the Board of Directors explains, “We realize this is a critical time for the building community. People have questions about sustainability, cool roofing, recycling, and the environmental impact of construction products . . . and we plan to mark [our] ten years of success by providing the industry with specific answers to many of the questions that confront us.”

ERA suggests creation of new advisory board

As part of this endeavor, the ERA is planning to create an advisory board composed of roofing industry leaders that will help suggest regulations to encourage environmentally-friendly roofing projects. Ellen Thorp, who acts as the Associate Executive Director of the ERA, says, “The building industry is working in an increasingly fast-paced environment, facing economic and regulatory challenges that were unimaginable even a decade ago. We need to stay
in close touch with the industry we serve, and the input from these individuals [on the advisory board] will help us anticipate and prepare for the challenges
we all face.”
