Talismans---upgrading and tiers

so I'm a bit lost when it comes to this as I thought the basic understanding was get five t1 and put them in the shrine spawns a mob that then has a tier 2 talisman. But after I did that I got a talisman that was even worse than all the blues I put in. Leaving me with a white plus hp of plus 11% hp.

So my question is how can we tell the difference between the tier 1/2/3/4 etc?
I believe ggg will put something in to id them quickly. For now i think you can only be familiar with the implicits. There is probably a wiki page up for them.

If you put all blues in you should get a blue back. Each talisman sacrificed gives a 20% chance for the new one to be that rarity.
I don't know if there is any system in the game which displays the tiers of talismans. I usually just look them up on the wiki page.

This is a buff.
The difference between the first 3 tiers is the implicite you can get. The fourth tier rolls you two implicite among the first 3 tiers.

The chance of getting a normal/magic/rare/unique talisman is equal to what you put in (1 normal + 2 magic + 1 rare + 1 unique will give you 1/5 for a normal, 2/5 for a magic, etc...).

After the rarity of the talisman is randomly chosen depending on what you put (of course if you put 5 rares you have 5/5 chances of getting a rare back), the stats are randomly chosen. Be aware that the stat you can roll depend on the average ilvl of the talisman you put in.

Hope it helped :)

In as much as the Talisman league is a huge let down. Everytime I find an altar I have to pick and choose which ones to put in and seldom can actually make one of them work. Mostly due to it saying they are the wrong tier, which is of course not on the item. The idea that I have to go look it up on some web page in the middle of play is completely "FAIL' I like to mindlessly kill mobs as in an actual action type game. Needing to go read on web sites is not my idea of fun.
Maybe yours is different, IDK, but I doubt I am alone in my thinking.

P.S. most of the new skills suck too.

That does help thank you
You need 5 different types... at least that's my understanding.

You need 5 different talisman of the same tier. You can recognize the tier with the art of the chain of the necklace (tier 1 is white, tier 2 has little pearl and tier 3 is red). With time you also get used to the tier of the mode.

No one ever said higher tier talisman are supposed to be better, they just have another bank of implicit mods, some that are incredibly powerful to achieve specific builds (2% life regen for a righteous fire build for example).

you can easily identify the tier of a Talisman by its color. (white-ish, black-ish, red-ish)

No you can not easily identify the tier of a Talisman by its color... if you are a colorblind player like I am. really wish all companies would remember this I know quite a few colorblind players and of course everything is color coded.
