Best way to get the socket colors I need ??

Hey everyone !
I'm trying to Craft my Infernal Mantle in order to get 3 Red Sockets, Two Blue and 1 Green, for my Dual Totem Witch build. I know 3 Red Sockets are almost impossible to get on such an item while using a single Chromatic Orb, so I'm trying to use Vorici's Artisan's Bench. In order to get 3R / 2B / 1G, should I : 1 - Save a lot and always use the 285 Chrom option "At least 3 Red Sockets" ; 2 - Use the "At least two Red Sockets" option a bunch of times for 25 Chroms ; 3 - Use the "One Red and one Green Socket" option a bunch of times for 15 Chroms ; 4 - Use another tactic I don't know ?? I'm new at crafting, but I really want to get better at it ! Thanks for your time ! |

I suggest bookmarking this site for answering this sort of question. It uses an empirically derived formula so probably isn't perfect, but seems to very closely approximate real results.
In this case, your best option is apparently use Vorici's "at least 1 red socket" as long as you don't mind high variance. 2 red costs more on average (~500 vs ~400 chroms), but has much lower variance. The rule of thumb is that you should probably use the Vorici option that gives you one off-colour socket below the amount you need, but as you can see there are exceptions. Imho, the variance is wrong on site for yolo roll and Vorici 1 color. Every time I tried some hard coloring, I was way above the average the site gives. And I often end up using the 2 colors method, or even the 3 one (had to do it recently).

It's done ! I used the "1 Red Socket" option as suggested. It cost me about 120 Chromatic Orbs (30 tries), while I had used the "At least 3 Red Sockets" twice before. Very happy with the result : Now I just need to 6-Link this baby. I'll probably have to gather the whole 1500 fusings... |
