clunky controls: Shift button + left mouse button

I see this mentioned in other posts but its the biggest issue I have with the controls for the game and I wanted to throw my hat in with the lot.

Currently if you are already holding down left click to move and press the shift button nothing happens. You have to let go of the left mouse button press shift and then press the left mouse button to engage stationary attack. Also if you let go of shift while in stationary attack mode you continue firing until you let go of the left mouse button.

This should be simplified to work the way it does in other action rpg's: while holding down left click pressing shift switches you to stationary attack, letting go of shift resumes movement; all without taking your finger off of the left mouse button

Adding what others have posted below, these are all features that I am used to from other ARPGS so I'm adding them in:

1) You should not stop firing until you lift your finger off of the shift key regardless of whether or not the mob you were targeting dies.

2) Arrows tend to hit the ground exactly where you click, this makes it harder to hit a specific mob with a skill shot like poison arrow. You have to actually click the mob you want to hit rather than just in its general direction.

3) For melee characters hovering the Mouse over the character with Shift+Left Click held down should Auto Detect mobs within melee range. Moving the mouse onto a specific target should change the Melee characters focus to that target

Since this has to do with clunky controls:

I have a hard time actually clicking on monsters. If I do do a shift+click/Right click, and not actually ON a monster, I just do a swing and a miss. It would be nice if when you are swarmed, you could just hold shift+LeftClick on an open space, and keep attacking until all are dead, without having to manually select each minion on the field individually.

I've seen that GGG is going to fix the 'being able to select a friend' ability right now. This would be great. Not trying to attack a friend/zombie you're partied up with.

With casters, this isn't a big deal, you can just cast cast cast in the general direction and the skills I've used so far all have a type of AoE, so you're able to kill more than one.
Just started playing a bow character and have been noticing a few things with the shift clicking as well.
I agree with the op that it'd be nice to be able to press shift to attack/release shift to move without have to left click again. Couple other things feel like they're preventing more fluid play for me. If you're shift+click locked on a monster, you stop shooting when it dies. If you're shift+click locked on empty space then mouse over a monster, you don't get their health bar popup.
