Skill stuck repeating

When I cast an ability that is bound to a keyboard hotkey the ability will continue to cast nonstop until I either Alt+Tab or press escape. This does not happen with skills bound to a mouse button. Sticky keys is turned off, I have no macros running, and I have no additional fancy keyboard/mouse drivers installed.

I can't play the game at all, I can't do anything else while it's stuck. I've reinstalled countless times since this bug first started happening a year ago, and I've even gotten a new keyboard.

I found a few really old threads where people are having this issue, but there's either been no responses or someone says it's because of sticky keys, so that's no help. Does anyone have an idea of how I could fix this?

It's likely a keyboard malfunction.

Technicalities: when you press a key in your keyboard, it sends a signal to your pc saying that a key has been pressed and it needs to interrupt what it's doing to process that key. If you were to hold down the key, it would initially send the signal, wait for a bit, and then send a continuous flow of signals. These signals are called interruptions. This is easy by trying to type on a text editor: try holding down "a" and you'll see what I mean. It goes "a", pause, "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa....". The keyboard recognizes when you let go of your key and sends a signal with a break code, meaning that the key is no longer held down and normal activities can be done again.

What's very likely happening is that your keyboard is somehow not working and doesn't send the appropriate breakcodes when you release your key. Try editing a text file and clicking on the keys you usually use for PoE and see what happens.


I didn't ignore you saying that you've gotten a new keyboard since then, but in 1 year time, you would've quit the game if the bug was consistent.
