Reading the history of Wraeclast, wondering about Brutus

New to the game, was curious about the Wraeclast continent, and why it corrupts all humans living there, or duying there. I've only seend the start of the game, and maybe my idea about the continet isn't right, but I went searching and found the History of Wraeclat on gamepedia.

There it was written:

http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/History_of_Wraeclast#Shavronne_and_Brutus

"
She tricked or convinced the warden, Brutus[64], into allowing her to make him into a super-human monster capable of defeating the Karui[65]. Brutus killed Shavronne after the transformation.

I found out that Brutus will be the next boss I have to fight, and so I read a bit more about him:

http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Brutus,_Lord_Incarcerator

"

... in a desperate bid to extend his own waning life, he allowed them to experiment on him.

For days the halls of The Prison echoed with Brutus' awful shrieking, and when it was over, he was transformed into a hideous, hulking mutant. As the Necromancers crowded around to witness the results of their twisted endeavor, Brutus burst free from his bonds and descended on them with savagery.

Findings:

1) The two explanations of Brutus tranformation don't match. The first has a single person doing the tranformation, the second has a "crowd of necromancers".

2) Particularly in the second explanation it was Brutus who wanted the transformation, and had asked the necromancers to do it.

3) In the first explanation, he at least had agreed to it.

My question: I he wanted or had agreed to the tranformation, but finally killed Savronne (or the crowd of necromancers), why did he do so? Did the tranformation go wrong? Why didn't he demand a better tranformation from Savronnen or the necromancers? He had now even more power than before, and could put more pressure on them to do better work.

Or did he just go insane? (Which I'd consider the transfomers fault ...)

Puzzled I am monstly about the inconsistency of the two sources and that brutuis turned against the ones who transformed him, particularly if he wanted the tranformation - "desperately" as the latter source says.

I tend to believe that the brutus page is still somewhat lingering from the days before 1.0

As far as we know the karui was going into an assault on the prison, where shavronne then convinced/tricked the warden into allowing her to use her thaumaturgy on him (or face imminent defeat and killing by the karui warriors). This turned him into what he is today, meant as a force to stop any karui attack on the "prison".

If you swap necromancers for thaumaturgs on the brutus page, it also somewhat fits his overall story arc as i have understood it.

then it all fits...
Fought Brutus a bit earlier today, and I must say, if the he was meant to stop the Karui attack in his new form, he still wouldn't have lasted long. Or did he decay over the years and was stronger when freshly transformed?

Merveil was more difficult, but I must admit that I fought with bad tactics on the first two attempts. If one knows what to expect, it's easier. Still, first and so far only death of my character. Feels a bit bad, because in hindsight I know I could have done better, but well, it finally worked, and this being the first character, it's also to learn the game.

I like the looks of the early act 2. Something colorful after all the dark and murky places, refreshing to the eye.
Nice links you have there. I ll check them out. Educate myself about a bit more about PoE's lore. Im sure some bits have changed since the last time i checked them out.
