Since the wait for open beta is such a grind, I thought I'd address something that's been confusing me regarding Diablo 3. I was a Diablo fanatic and know the first two games inside out. But here is what gets me: The soulstone gets destroyed in D2, so how the heck does Diablo still exist in D3? I haven't spent time reading into it, I'm hoping one of you have :3
First you must ask yourself, Can you really kill a god?
That is what diablo is, A god.

Besides, Diablo doesn't exist on the plane of Sanctuary. He takes control of people and can even take physical form. When you killed him previously, You never actually killed him, Just his puppets.
Fun things, Sad things... We can't share everything, But what we can, we should share... That is what it means to be a guild. A single persons happiness is everyone's happiness. A single persons anger is everyone's anger. And a single person's tears are everyone's tears.
Diablo to strong son
Thanks so much to "Crystalis" for a Beta Key!!!!
These are the two things that, imo, are most likely:

1) There is a chance what we see at the end of D2 isn't true... Marius says that the soulstone was destroyed and then we watch a cut scene. The cut scene may have been Marius's false account.

2) When his soulstone was destroyed, Diablo is sent back to hell. When the worldstone is destroyed, the gates to hell were opened so Diablo may be able to leave freely without a soulstone.

^ Answer two is basically it, when you destroy the soulstone, you don't kill Diablo, you free his soul. This allows him to come back to the world in his real form, without taking on a human host. :)
Stay a while and SHUT THE $*&% UP!
The D3 backstory provides some fuel for speculation on Diablo:

Spoiler
Lydia the Witch "comforted" the champion who slew Diablo, after he came up out of the Cathedral. Her daughter, Leah, is also Deckard Cain's niece (making Lydia his sister, it seems). There was a promotional image of a rather feminine-looking Diablo/Diablette, leading some to think that Leah will, at some point, embody the Lord of terror.

Might be a stretch, but it's food for thought. =^[.]^=
