Baleful Gem quest

I had the gem before the upgrade and after it was gone. I have tried 3 times to go back down and get it again with no luck. What can I do to continue with the game?

the same problem here. I can click the "altar" once, but nothing happens. The cake is a lie

9.4 mistakenly removed the gem from the inventory of the people who had acquired it Pre-9.4.
9.4b patch was supposed to fix this problem by allowing characters to reacquire the gem from the device. Unfortunately 9.4b didn't actually have the fix included in the patch despite the patch notes listing that it did. 9.4c should fix this problem. 0.9.4c is live and should fix this. Sorry for all the trouble.
