High Mana Cost Spell Setup Suggestions
Hi, I'm going to try and see how high mana regen I can get in a working HC build. I have a basic idea on what I want to do with the tree already and probably won't need much help there (though you may give it anyway if you wish).
What I do want help with is the choice of high cost spell to go with it. After a quick check on some spells I came to the conclusion that Shock Nova might be a good contender with a base level 20 cost of ~41 mana/sec (31 mana/cast) and a number of costly support choices. An example of a 6l could be: Shock Nova + Concentrated Effect + Spell Echo + Lightning Penetration + Added Lighting + Increased Area of Effect (31 * 1.4 * 1.4 * 1.4 * 1.3 * 1.4 = ~155 mana/cast => 154 / 0.75 = 206 mana / sec). This is what I'll go with if I don't get anything more interesting. Please provide 6l level 20 gem costs in the form of mana/sec rather than mana/cast for easy comparison. Preferably give names and mana multipliers for your chosen gems. Also no Blood Magic setups. I'm not going to actually make this right now, this is merely for preparation. If there's interest I could post results whenever I get around to it. P.S. Don't choose links based solely on cost! Effectiveness is still important but other than that anything goes. |

Dunno how you plan to get such high mana regen now that EB is changed?
I am running over 300% mana regen and a level 18 clarity and my mana regen sits at 142/second. You really need to invest into % reduced mana cost also, just piling on mana regen won't cut it. Hmm, do you plan on any cast speed gear? Or cast speed in the tree? How do you factor faster casting/spell echo without knowing the increased cast speed at the end?
Btw, spark is another mana costly skill especially in a 6L, but without cast speed it's just not worth trying to guess how much will be the mana cost/sec, this is coming from a guy who used to run 650 cast speed builds. |

I'm assuming I'm going to get similar cast speed increases no matter the skill which is why I've ignored it for this comparison. Spark could be interesting, I rather like the skill and it also scales well with cast speed. I'm not trying to get an endgame cost estimate here but only an estimate on comparative costs with a full build for different skills. I just want to see how far I can push the costs and still sustain. Having a really high cost skill will help for this as I don't want to solve my resource problem too early if it could be harder. That last part sounded really off... But yeah I'm trying to push limits here. |

Get max mana in passive (and gear if possible), so that you can support clarity with other aura. With clarity and rallying cry (best cry for mana hungry character), you have nearly 30 flat mana regen. Having a lot of mana regen in gear can boost that 30 base mana regen and you original mana regen to a very large amount. You probably need reduced mana cost in passive. These passive points can help you a lot. You can treat a 9% reduced mana cost a 10% MORE of you effective mana regen. If you manage to get 24% reduced mana cost (not so hard as mana/mana cost and life/mana cost are right near templar area), it means 31.5% MORE effective mana regen. By this point, you can support most skills.
