Eldritch Battery & Mind over matter don't work together as expected
|
So the Eldritch battery keystone states "Energy Shield protects Mana instead of Life - Spend Energy Shield before Mana for Skill Costs".
So post 2.0 it no longer states that energy shield BECOMES mana, just that spells cost energy shield before mana. The Mind over matter keystone states "When Hit, 30% of Damage is taken from Mana before Life". However when used together 30% of the damage is taken to energy shield, and not to the mana. Does anyone else find this weird and confusing? It would have made sense before when eldritch battery said energy shield became mana but if ES is still just ES, why is mind over matter diverting 30% damage to ES and not the mana still? This makes perfect sense to me. Mind over Matter is trying to subtract Mana, and Eldritch Battery rather clearly will prevent that; it 'protects' your Mana from being removed.

^ agreed, and the way it works currently means MoM + EB allows you to reserve 100% of your mana without having to use blood magic

Hmm yeah i guess that does make sense. It's strange though, I would have though that buy 'protect' it would have just meant from mana leech and cost of skills.

From what I recall of dev statements during the beta period picking both Eldritch Battery and Mind Over Matter should result in all damage but chaos damage deducting energy shield before mana while chaos damage still bypasses energy shield regardless of whether it protects life or mana.
Basically it boils down to the fact that damage is damage. It doesn't matter if damage is deducted from life or mana, and subsequently it should function the same with regards to energy shield when you have Mind Over Matter as it does without it.
