Spell Echo should work with Totems
PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU REPLY!
Because the title is a bit confusing. I'm not at all suggesting totems should double-cast their spells at increased (well, "more") cast speed when they are linked to the spell echo support. Spell echo is meant to boost self-casting and hence it's logical only the spells cast by players are affected. What I do mean however, is that the casting of the totem itself CAN be considered a self-cast of the player, as he is actually casting that totem himself. So what spell echo should do, is increase the cast speed of summoning a totem and repeat that action automatically so you immediately have two totems out. I tested it: it's not the case now and I don't understand why. It seems logical and very far from OP. I think few people will consider linking their totem to spell echo even if it worked. However, for some builds it can be handy to have two totems out in an eye-blink, and it's certainly a fun niche-mechanic. It also helps to deal with the general high mana cost of totems in an original way. All in all, I don't see any argument against it (not finding this a usefull extra option is not an argument contra, but more of an "I don't care"). Concerning this topic, I guess the same applies to minions, although I didn't test that yet. I'm sure someone hereunder can testify about how minions work with spell echo. I know SRS works, but I doubt it works for zombies and skellies, which makes no sense. Why one but not the other? Please bump this thread if you also feel spell echo should apply to the summoning fase of totems (and summons). This thread has been automatically archived. Replies are disabled.

Actually in beta not even cast speed affects totem raising speed, its a separate thing.
They won't ever allow it to work with totems or channeled abilities like flameblast its too hard to balance around. https://youtu.be/T9kygXtkh10?t=285

" For the moment, spell echo works on channeled abilities like flame blast and incinerate. |

" Neither do in beta last time I checked. :P https://youtu.be/T9kygXtkh10?t=285

Yeah, incinerate got screwed over hard in 2.0.
Another useless skill gem. (but I digress) |

" It should work in a cone in front of the caster not require lmp or gmp in order to have AOE. I mean without lmp or gmp it is a channeling single target spell that probably has no purpose in 2.0. https://youtu.be/T9kygXtkh10?t=285

Change title to "Spell Echo should work for summoning totems" to get quality feedback.

I think the "Quality Feedback" for the OP has already been given. "Not going to happen" basically.
However, there is a unique chest I think that adds +1 totem. You could also add another unique of same type (chest) that instead of +1 totem, it adds "Summons additional copy of socketed totem" but does not take away other forms of damage. However, you would then just be summoning 2 totems right next to each other, and, as a person that has played a multiple totem build, that's hardly ever ideal. This all seems to suggest that Spell Echo is pretty terribly designed. Who knew?
On top of being a lazy fix to self-cast that requires a mandatory gem link, they now have to shoehorn in a list of special exceptions that it won't work with, despite being a "spell" support. There's also that cheese with Enduring Cry. The track record speaks for itself. Last edited by DeviantLightning#7374 on Jun 3, 2015, 9:33:20 PM

" Spell echo was more then likely designed (more importantly added) to help with the discrepancy between manually casting spells and using cast on crit. Enduring cry with spell echo no longer works in beta, although this was never the issue, manually casting buffs should net a better result then getting it or casting it automatically. For self casting its far from mandatory, if you want tool tip dps sure it is, but if you want actual clear speed and overall better performance you don't need to or should even use it. https://youtu.be/T9kygXtkh10?t=285
