How can I change my League?

I started playing the game very recently and wanted to play together with my friend, but he happened to be in a Normal League and my character is at one called Torment. Can I change it somehow?

The only way individual characters change leagues is through death in a hardcore league or at the end of temporary leagues. When Torment ends (probably in about two months), your Torment character will move to Standard. Other than that, you have to make a new character. The whole point of the different leagues is that they're entirely separate, I'm afraid.

Stuff in Torment will automatically move to Standard in about 2-3 months, but there's nothing you can do before then. If you want to play together someone has to make a new character (stash does not carry over between leagues).
