How is armor calculated?

How is armor calculated in this game/ I remove a piece of armor that says 200, but I lose more than 200? obviously, this is a positive thing because i get more than 200 armor when i put it on, but i'm just curious of how armor is calculated, especially with the passive iron reflexes. i seem to have more armor on my ranger (when i spec iron reflexes) than i do on my full armor marauder.

Thanks!

Edit: read and learn (armour calculation is a little more than half-way down iirc)

thanks a bunch, but doesn't entirely answer my question. i wasn't looking for damage reduction vs. armor, but more of how armor is just calculated. I take off a 200 armor piece an and my total armor falls from 2.6k to 2.1k. Why is that? Why does my ranger with iron reflexes have 2.6k armor and my marauder only have 1.2k armor when their evasion and armor rating are the same?? or maybe i just misread the link u posted...

I'm assuming you have a bunch of +xx% armour or evasion nodes in your passive tree?

200 armour * 250% increased armour multipliers = 500 armour, so it's perfectly reasonable that 200 base armour might end up being far more in actual application.

It's calculated like this:

(base armour from that piece of gear) * (1 + total sum of all additive % armour nodes in passive and on rings/amulets) * (multiplicative modifiers (of which I can think of none)) = total applied armour.

If you're using Iron Reflex:

(base evasion) * (1 + total evasion nodes) * (multiplicative modifiers) = total evasion;
total evasion * (1 + armour additive nodes) * (armour multiplicative nodes) = total armour.

I'd read the whole thing, it's really helpful. This game has a lot of math in it, it's good to know the equations and how things interact.

And you're welcome, glad I could help. If anything I said was wrong, I am sorry; it's almost 3:30 AM here, and I'm really tired.
