hoa vs hot
|
Does anybody know whether the increased damage from shock on hot (not the lightning strikes the lightning damage can provide shock) will provide more damage or the extra physical damage from hoa?

That would depend on how much physical damage you deal...
High attack speed but low damage per hit = HoT probably better. Bigger hits at lower attack speed = HoA probably better. Somewhere inbetween = do the math. Many lewt. Much desync. Such rewarding. Wow. According to forum mods "sandwich" is considered an offensive word. Who knew? Last edited by Robert_Paulson#5467 on Dec 27, 2014, 5:11:39 PM

Well what's the threshold? When does one get better than the other?

The easiest way is to try each out and check.

That won't work, you don't understand the question. A shocked enemy receives extra damage meaning it wont show up on the tooltip....

"It's not about Shocking with HoT, it's about the Static Damage it adds. It won't be enough to Shock on it's own anyway, and if you could shock before, you probably can with HoA as well. For *most* builds, HoT is better, but when using a VERY slow weapon, HoA will be better. " ... :/ You can't compare HoA in a vacuum with HoT + shock... You're taking into account the potential to shock from the added lightning damage, but not the overkill burn from HoA. It's very build dependant, and you haven't given enough information, like crit chance, etc. I gave feedback based on information provided, which included no details on shock chance. Many lewt.

" If Herald of Thunder takes you from never shocking enemies to always shocking enemies, then it's better than Herald of Ash (assuming you aren't geared to deal massive amounts of overkill damage). Shock means 50% more damage under most circumstances, which is huge, and the added damage is pretty solid as well for fast-attacking/casting builds. But going from no shock to guaranteed shock is not a realistic scenario for most builds. It depends on a lot of other factors, like how fast you attack, how often you crit, and whether you have a chance to shock on non-crits. Also, you could be getting shocks already from other sources, such as lightning damage on gear or Physical to Lightning support. Last edited by Incompetent#3573 on Dec 28, 2014, 5:19:42 AM

Well, actually i will be going from almost no shock to almost always shock. I'm going to be transitioning into crit later on when i'm actually leveled.
