Life Gain On Hit Vs Life Leech

Is it just me or is life leech really bad? Like really bad.

As in, you dont do more than 200 damage for a long time, and 1% for example of that is 2 life back? while life gain on hit adds about 12 life each hit as its lvl 1 approx? so to match life gain you would have to be hitting for 1200 dmg to get 12 life back from 1%?

Am i missing something here? i surely have to be or have something wrong somewhere, just not sure what or where, especially since life leech comes a while after life gain on hit like its the next step up.
Life on hit = aoe spells
Life leech = physical damage single target
Life on hit = Instant heals,
Life leech = Life over time LoT

There's a keystone to make life leech instant, but you lose the abilty to heal or get mana from flasks.

Its actually the other way around and Life on Hit isn't restricted to only single target Physical skills and works with Physical AoE skills such as Ground slam.

Life on Hit is better than Life Leech always under Lv 60. Unless you're running some amazing gear and glass canon build then the leech is going to heal for less and not be instant.

I'm not sure if post 60 the damage starts scaling hugely upward but getting 28 LoH isn't hard and in order to match that you need to hit 934 dmg per target to match.

Maybe I'm missing something.

Yeah exactly, lvl 38 i can get 22 life per hit from life gain, if i had of leveled life leech instead it would be on like maybe 4%? so with fair decent damage of say 300 with a strong attack skill @ 4% life leech only gets you 12 life back per hit.

Cant see life leech being viable until literally end game, or used in combo with life gain, but then id rather add melee phys dmg or atk spd or anything else instead....
its all about attack speed. using ground slam with really slow weapon i do like 3500 damage per hit (my dps is around 4800). with my 8% LL attacking single target will give me 210 life in 3 sec, which is 70 life per sec. while my life on hit gem gives me like 36 life per sec.

lets imagine i was super fast dual wielding attacker doing like 6 attacks a second and having same 4800 dps, yet doing only like 800 damage per attack. it will give me only 16 life per attck per sec, because LL applies in queue, yet with LoH i ll get 6x36-216 per sec.

math may be inaccurate, yet the idea stays - high damage low AS - LL, low damage high AS - LoH. and yes, till like level 60 LL is underpowered compared to LoH in most cases.

hope that helps =)

awesome sure does, as i prefer 1h mace and shield and have specced tank i guess i should stay with LoH since that would be more lower dmg faster strike.

3 - 4k dps is insane i dont think ill ever get that high haha im lvl 52 with just under 200 dps :P and thats with very good rolls on a 1h mace. although i do have full ele resists 40% dmg reduct and over 2k life with about 90 life regen a second passively and will be upgrading my weapon next lvl that will basically double dmg.

o.O

I'm level 38 and I broke 200 dps a while back. Might wanna check your gear/skills or something. I mean, I haven't broken 300 yet, but still.

im now on 300 dps, my heavy strike though now does 400 - 850 + 30 - 50 in fire, at lvl 53

as i said though i have maxed element resists, which in a few lvls will be 80% not 75%. I have just under 50% dmg reduct, 90 life regen a-second passive, which allows me to run up and rolfstomp anything cause i heal more than they can damage. Then with my life on hit to each enemy for my AOE also with additional accuracy, let alone warlords mark life leech curse, let alone hp pots on top, and then having almost 2100 life before facing Vaal on cruel basically end of act 2. Anyone groups need super tank end game? lol
