Lightning damage on rings
|
Hey all,
These two rings have lightning damage: This item has lightning damage: Only the weapon affects my spark spell damage and stats. If I go to my character screen and select spark (my main attack), when I remove the weapon it modifies (reduces) dps and lightning damage for spark. Removing the rings does nothing. Can someone help me understand the benefit of the lightning damage on these rings if it doesn't affect my lightning based spells?? |

the damage is added to attacks used by your weapon, not spells like spark.

+Lightning Damage will never modify your spells.
Weapon basic attacks benefit off of the +X-+X Elemental damage, as well as any attacks that use those weapons (like Lighting strike, Burning Arrow, Sweep, any other attack that uses those weapons ect ect) The reason your spark is getting stronger when you use the scepter is because it has +Elemental damage and +Spell damage. See you, Space Cowboy... Last edited by SaneExile#6254 on Feb 6, 2013, 12:58:26 PM

I got you bro. When you remove your staff it reduces damage because your staff has spell damage. The lightning dmg only effects autos to my knowledge. Well physical damage spells, but not spells. Someone feel free to correct me, I'm tired.

That's an attack modifier, meaning it adds the damage to all of your attacks or attack based skills(gems that have the word "attack" as a type). If you see "adds damage" it's for attacks. If you see "spell damage" it's for spells. If you see "elemental damage" it's for all sources of elemental damage, be it attacks, spells or traps. If you're confused check your skills here to see what type they are so you can figure out which modifiers work with them.

Thanks everybody for the help, I understand now. I can concentrate on NOT caring about that lightning damage stat on gear as I am a spork battle mage.
Thanks again! |
