Avatar of Fire and Physical Damage Nodes
I just got Avatar of Fire. Are physical damage nodes useless?
The following three support gems each give me 6.5 DPS on Infernal Blow's tooltip per every 1% of the gem: Weapon Elemental Damage Melee Physical Damage Added Fire Damage But I'm unclear if I should refund some of the physical nodes I have, because of the 50% conversion. Converted Damage benefits from the source-type's Damage multipliers.
Avatar of Fire Converts Physical damage to Fire damage. This new base Fire Damage is then multiplied by both Physical and Elemental Damage multipliers. 8% Increased Physical is just as strong as 8% Increased Fire Damage, because they're both just additive, applying to the same base. Respec if you feel you don't need the Damage anymore, or if you can get better returns per point elsewhere. Last edited by Vipermagi#0984 on Aug 27, 2014, 9:14:57 AM

" If I'm understanding you correctly, the below two Templar starting nodes would increase my damage equally? And even if not equally, Melee Damage passives (and similar nodes) are still very useful? This is for AoF Infernal Blow. Melee Damage 12% increased Melee Physical Damage Elemental Damage 12% increased Elemental Damage |

For the punching, they're exactly equal: 12% Increased Damage either way.
Infernal Blow also has a secondary effect though, which happens to deal Fire Damage. That makes the Elemental Damage better in the long run. (I didn't think of the explosion when writing my previous post) |

" my lvl 57 templar build That's my build so far. Should I refund the below passives? My goal with this build is an Avatar of Fire, Infernal Blow, 1H scepter + shield Templar. I will not be taking Resolute Technique on him, but thanks in advance for suggesting it. Melee Damage - 12% Melee Damage - 10% One Handed Melee Damage - 10% One Handed Melee Damage - 10% Crusader - 18% + 20 STR Last edited by Lenox2288#1203 on Aug 27, 2014, 2:15:55 PM

" Gotcha, found it. Explosion Damage: The damage of the explosion will be 25% of the corpses' former life, modified by elemental and fire damage passives and item mods. Spell damage will not modify either the attack or explosion damage. |
